PC introduces bond resolution Wednesday

Parish council members introduced a resolution Wednesday authorizing $10 million in limited tax revenue bonds.
The funds will go toward infrastructure improvement.
Also Wednesday, the council held a five minute executive session in connection with a suit brought by Mosquito Control Contractors Inc. Upon return to regular session, legal counsel reported that MCCI will be paying $14,578 in reimbursement for legal fees incurred by the parish.
The parish council had terminated its contract with, and the company took exception with the procedural aspect of the termination. In the litigation that followed, MCCI lost the case, and though a hearing had been set regarding the parish’ attorney fees, the company chose to reimburse the costs of special counsel prior to that hearing.
The council adopted an ordinance dissolving Hospital Service District 3, the former Fairview Hospital district area in Bayou Vista.
Parish President David Hanagriff also reported that efforts to create a single authority of industrial tax exemptions, that being the parish, is ongoing.
The idea is to streamline execution of the exemptions to help facilitate location of business in the parish. Some municipalities have balked over shedding that authority to the parish. Hanagriff said the initiative is not a “power grab” and that it is a tool to help St. Mary be more competitive in attracting business.
Councilman J Ina requested that documents and other information be provided to council members earlier than has been done. Ina said the council often receives informative materials just before the council meetings, which does not leave enough time for members to fully peruse and make sound decisions.
In appointments, Doyle Corrales was approved to sit on Fire Protection District 3, and Carolyn Simon was appointed to the board of Fire Protection District 1.
