Franklin area man charged with Baldwin church burglary

On Thursday, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call for service from Baldwin Baptist Church regarding a burglary.
The deputy who responded found that the church had been robbed of sound equipment, tools, and other items. With the assistance of the pastor, the detective assigned to the case found that a male subject reportedly attempted to sell the stolen items at a pawn shop.
The detective recognized the suspect from previous interactions with him and identified him as 35 year old Ricky Tate Jr. The detective obtained a warrant for Tate’s arrest on the charge of illegal possession of stolen things.
On Easter Sunday morning, at 6:44 a.m., a deputy located Tate at his residence on the warrant, at 4663 Irish Bend Road in Franklin.
Tate was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
