Franklin All-Stars champs headed to the World Series in Lumberton, North Carolina

Fundraiser this Sunday at Caffery Park

Franklin’s 12-year-old state champions are headed to the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series Aug. 3-9 in Lumberton, North Carolina.
According to the organization, 5,000 teams began to tournament play in July, and Franklin’s team will join 11 other state champions in the series.
The league is holding a fundraiser that includes selling car decals and jambalaya dinner tickets for this Sunday at Caffery Park from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
They estimate $25,000 will be needed in total expenses. There are spots for a $200 “Homerun Sponsors” with a name or company name on the sponsorship banner that will be displayed at the World Series; and a $500 “Helmet Sponsor” that will also include a company logo or name on a player’s helmet during play.
Donations are tax deductible.
The team began its journey at Caffery Park as the Franklin 12U All-Star team in June, moving on to the district tournament in Thibodaux, the regional tournament in Viadlia and the Southern Regional Championship title. The state championship title was played in Alexandria, and are now known as Team Louisiana.
According to a press release, “This is such a wonderful opportunity for our boys to get to compete in the World Series, and this is where we need your help. This is a chance for our community, our parish, and our state to be represented by these fine young athletes. Our coaches, primarily volunteer parents and grandparents, have taken this opportunity to not only teach these boys about baseball, but have instilled within them a love for God who is the ultimate source of their talents and their accomplishments. This team is not only built of amazing baseball players, but young boys who exhibit character, dedication and sportsmanship throughout every game. They have formed life-long friendships and team building skills that will last long after the season ends. Your support would be well represented by these young boys and the coaching staff.”
