Baldwin off 'naughty list' with latest town audit

Baldwin Alderman Clarence Vappie announced Thursday that Baldwin has been removed from the state’s non-compliance list due to their performance on a recent legislative audit.
This promotes the town’s status to such that they are now eligible for federal grant funds, according to Alderman Margaret Coleman.
Vappie noted this was indication the town’s corrective financial action plans having been successful, adding, “It’s been a rough three years but this is finally some good news.”
Town Attorney Joseph Tabb summed up the status change by saying, “We’re finally off the naughty list.”
In other business, the signing of the intergovernmental agreement between Baldwin and St. Mary Water and Sewage Commission 5 was left in a state of limbo due to confirmation being required by the commission on certain sticking points in the agreement.
The agreement was unsigned by the commission as of Thursday, but Tabb stated he would make sure any necessary language changes to the agreement would be made by next month at the latest, and the agreement rendered mutually amenable.
Also, Town Clerk Chrystal Willis noted plans to revamp the town’s internet and social media presence were being put on hold due to difficulties putting together the credit card processing portion of the operation. However, she assured the board and attendees of the council meeting that the process would certainly come to completion, as she herself would donate her time and newly licensed professional services to that effect.
It was also announced the Beautification Club has applied for a $10,000 Keep Louisiana Beautiful Grant to be underwritten by Mayor Donna Lanceslin for an additional $10,000 pending the grant’s approval. Notification of approval is slated for June 1.
