Baldwin levee project on Bayou Choupique continues

Baldwin’s board of aldermen approved partial payment Thursday to Miller Engineers & Associates and its contractor for work done on the Bayou Choupique Levee Project.
Two payments, one of $117,000 and another of $1,456 were approved to be paid, as a representative from Miller Engineers announced a minor widening of the scope of the project, yet staying within the project’s budget.
It was approved, as well to move future Baldwin Town Hall meetings from Baldwin Town Hall to Baldwin Community Center.
Requested by Baldwin Mayor Abel “Phil” Prejean, the move was predicated on his interest in turning the current meeting space into office space.
The issue of the specifications for future renovation plans at the town hall was tabled pending a more detailed presentation, as per Prejean’s request.
In other news, language in the contract for the installation of new water meters was changed, according to Baldwin Town Attorney Joseph Tabb, at the behest of the office of the Louisiana Legislative Auditor, and is awaiting acceptance by the contractor of the bid.
Finally, a resolution of respect was offered to family and friends of former Baldwin Alderman Andrew Bowser, who passed away June 10.
