Baldwin clerk appointment stalled

Baldwin Mayor Donna Lanceslin saw her recommendation of Denette Trahan for Town Clerk of Baldwin tabled Thursday, after Alderman Margaret Coleman took issue with the personnel committee not “having checked anything out in her personnel file.”
Lanceslin said Trahan had been a candidate, on file, prior to the hiring of former Town Clerk Chrystal Willis, who was terminated in July.
She said she had sought the advice of Interim Town Clerk Tammy Richard, who had vouched for the apparent qualifications of Trahan, though Coleman recalled Richard also saying that Trahan had more to learn.
The recommendation of Trahan is set to be picked up at next month’s meeting, along with a tabled proposal by Baldwin Chief of Police Harry Smith for new protective vests, two leased patrol vehicles and uniforms for the town’s police department.
The proposal was presented to total around $10,000 and was tabled due to contractual ambiguity.
However, Town Attorney Joseph Tabb assured Smith that he would appraise the contract’s verbage, and counsel the board accordingly before the next meeting.
Baldwin Fire Chief Lance Mire addressed the board and mayor concerning hydrant testing scheduled to take place within town limits on Sept. 24 and 25.
Mire also advised that National Fire Prevention week will be from Oct. 6-11 this year, and that the Baldwin Volunteer Fire Department will hold an open house on Oct. 13 from 4-6 p.m., to celebrate. He said they will have “hotdogs, giveaways and demonstrations,” all for free; but that donations will be accepted.
In other news, it was announced that the West St. Mary High School Homecoming parade will take place Thursday at 4 p.m. from the Saeger Brown campus to Sunset Street in Baldwin.
Also, Brittany’s Project will hold their Candyland Sadie Hawkins Dance on Sept. 29 at Berwick Civic Center from 6-10 p.m. with admission priced at $15 per ticket.
