African American films at the Teche

At Wednesday's meeting of the St. Mary Parish Council Diane Wiltz and Danika Foley announced an “African American Film Festival” to be held at the Teche Theatre for the Performing Arts in March.
Wiltz said though the Teche became a performing arts venue, viewing films at the theatre can still be a reality.
The schedule is:
—March 2: “Mr. Civil Rights: Thurgood Marshall & The NAACP”
—March 3: “Soul Food”
—March 4: “A Distant Shore: African Americans of D-Day”
—March 11: “To Kill A Mockingbird”
—March 22: “Elementary Genocide: The School to Prison Pipeline”
—March 23: “Ruby Bridges”
—March 24: “Good Hair”
—March 25: “Imitation of Life”
Showtimes are 7 p.m. weekdays and weekends, and 3 p.m. matinee on Sundays.
There is no charge for admission.
In other business Wednesday:
—An ordinance was introduced dissolving Hospital Service District 3.
—An ordinance correcting a zoning district was introduced.
—Resolutions were adopted endorsing a Cleco project to participate in the Enterprise Zone Program; supporting St. Mary Head Start; authorizing participation in the Industrial Tax Exemption program; a contract with Aptim Environmental and Infrastructure for Harry P. Williams Memorial Airport aviation planning, civil engineering and related services; and authorizing the parish president to execute an agreement between Louisiana Housing Corporation and the parish for an emergency services grant program.
—Leroy Trimm, Alvin Wilkerson and Kenneth Mire were reappointed to the Water and Sewer Commission 1 board.

—Approval for Councilman J. Ina’s request of $1,500 from the Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 10 tax fund to the local Martin Luther King Jr. Committee for repair of the monument to the late civil rights leader and for a protective barrier.
