$700K from PC to city
St. Mary Parish President David Hanagriff, along with parish councilmembers Dale Rogers and J Ina, presented Franklin Mayor Eugene Foulcard and Franklin councilmembers with an early Christmas gift at Tuesday night’s city council meeting—a parish council allocation check for $700,000.
Last year, the bonded funds allotted parish cities by the parish council were capped at 25 percent of the parish’s $10 million bond issue. But after renegotiations of the parish council, this year’s allotment was raised to 30 percent.
According to Hanagriff, it was decided amongst councilmembers to confirm first the bids for contract work, and then issue a higher percentage of bonded funds to the parish cities and towns based on the reasonability of the bids.
The bids came in under the parish council’s estimates, so the allotment percentage went up.
“On behalf of myself,” Hanagriff said, “Councilman Rogers, Councilman Ina and the entire parish council, I want to give this check to the mayor and the city of Franklin, in the amount of $700,000.”
After which presentation, Franklin Councilman Chuck Autin exclaimed, “Merry Christmas!”
