Woman accused of threatening young people with bat

A Franklin woman is accused of threatening two juveniles with a baseball bat in a local school parking lot, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

St. Mary

Sheriff Blaise Smith reported that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 31 complaints and made these arrests:

--Naomi Sue Carter, 39, Franklin, was arrested at 5:24 p.m. Tuesday on charges of simple battery and aggravated assault.

A deputy was dispatched Tuesday to SMPSO headquarters in reference to a battery that had taken place at a local school earlier in the day.

The deputy spoke with juveniles who stated that a female, identified as Carter, had confronted them at school in the parking lot as they were leaving.

According to the juveniles, Carter grabbed one of the juveniles by the arm and eventually got a baseball bat from her vehicle and threatened to hit them with it.

The deputy also spoke to a school employee, who stated that he stepped in between the juveniles and Carter in order to keep them from being hit.

Subsequently, the deputy made contact with Carter at her residence. Carter was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail was set at $6,000.

—Anthony Butler, 58, Franklin, was arrested at 10:06 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on the charge of simple battery. Bail has not been set at this time.

Morgan City

Interim Police Chief Mark E. Griffin Jr.reported that the Morgan City Police Department responded to 44 calls for service over the last 24-hour reporting period and made these arrests:

—Marvin Mejia Vega, 34, Lonely Oak Lane, Morgan City, was arrested at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of monetary instrument abuse.

—Carl Anthony Williams, 38, Beau Lane, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday on charges of battery of a dating partner and criminal damage to property.

—Glenn Earnest Buercklin, 55, Clausine Drive, Schreiver, was arrested at 6:57 a.m. Wednesday on a charge of failure to appear for arraignment (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

—Tre James Landry, 26, La. 182, Morgan City, was arrested at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday on a charge of domestic abuse battery (child endangerment law) and as a fugitive from the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
