Well blowout occurred when company was attempting to seal it
A natural gas well blew out in Wax Bayou Sunday at Belle Isle in St. Mary Parish when the well’s owner was trying to permanently seal it, a Louisiana Department of Natural Resources spokesman said Monday morning.
Texas Petroleum Investment Company was attempting to seal off the well when they encountered a problem and the well blew out, Department of Natural Resources Spokesman Patrick Courreges said.
No one has been reported hurt in the incident, according to the Department of Natural Resources and the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Marine Section was onsite at 4:02 p.m. Sunday.
The sheriff’s office’s Marine Section closed waterways within a half mile of the well site.
Courreges said the incident occurred away from any communities, and he said Wild Well Control was at the site Monday.
“It’s our understanding that it’s dry gas,” Courreges said of what was coming from the well, listing methane and ethane.
