Vehicle hits motorized bike in Bayou Vista

A Pride man whose motorized bicycle was hit by a pickup truck Wednesday evening in Bayou Vista has been cited for equipment violations, Louisiana State Police Troop I said.

The accident happened at Southeast Boulevard and La. 182. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office reported a road closure at 6:35 p.m. State police were called at 6:41 p.m.

The preliminary investigation shows that Eroy J. Acosta Jr. of Pride was traveling east on his motorized bike when a pickup truck turned left from La. 182 into Acosta's path.

The bike was not equipped with a headlight, and Acosta was not wearing a safety helmet, Troop I said.

Acosta was taken by ambulance to a medical facility. There was no immediate word on the extent of his injuries.
