Fire believed to have started in AC unit
Firefighters responded to a fire at a duplex home at about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday on Levee Road near Lawrence Street in Morgan City. Upon arrival, flames and smoke were showing. The fire is believed to have likely started in an air conditioning unit in the attic, Fire Chief Alvin Cockerham said. No one was injured in the fire, and Cockerham said the damage to the home was about “a 70 percent loss.” Firefighters cleared the scene around 4:30 p.m.
