Unrestrained Morgan City woman killed in Assumption Parish crash Wednesday

A Morgan City woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on La. 662 just north of U.S. 90.
Dalaina Rentrope, 28, was killed in the crash.
State Police Troop C began investigating the wreck just after 5 a.m. and learned that at the time of the accident, Rentrope was northbound on La. 662 in a 2020 Nissan Versa. For reasons still under investigation, she crossed the centerline and struck a southbound 2011 Ford F-150 head-on, according to the state police release.
Rentrope, who was not wearing her seat belt, suffered serious injuries. She was transported to University Medical Center in New Orleans where she later died.
The driver of the Ford and his passenger were wearing seat belts and suffered minor injuries. They were transported to a local hospital for treatment, State Police said.
Impairment is unknown on the part of Rentrope, and a standard toxicology report is pending, State Police said. The driver of the Ford was not suspected to be impaired, and he provided a breath sample which showed no alcohol present. This crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana state law requires vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in all seating positions, day or night. Statistics show the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained, but the decision not to wear a seat belt can have deadly consequences.
Troop C has investigated 12 fatal crashes resulting in 15 deaths this year.
