Unguarit to be installed as bishop Sept. 5

The ordination and installation for Bishop-elect Simon Peter Enguarit, chosen by the Vatican to lead the Roman Catholic Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 5 at the Cathedral of St. Francis de Sales in Houma.

The ceremony will be conducted by New Orleans Archbishop Gregory Aymond. Christophe Cardinal Pierre, apostolic nuncio to the United States, is also expected to attend.

The event will be live-streamed on YouTube @htdioceseLA and on Facebook.

The diocese announced Unguarit’s appointment June 5. He had served as the diocese’s administrator since the January 2024 death of Bishop Mario Dorsonville.

Unguarit will be the Houma-Thibodaux Diocese’s sixth bishop.
