Two more COVID deaths, 141 new cases in St. Mary

Two more COVID-related deaths and 141 new cases were reported for St. Mary Parish over the weekend by the Louisiana Office of Public Health.

The fatalities raised the pandemic toll to 164. Seventeen St. Mary COVID deaths, more than one a day, have been reported since Aug. 1.

The new COVID cases raise the total of 7,237 here. Positivity on COVID tests was down about 7 percentage points to 17.8% for the week ending Aug. 4. The incidence rate, a seven-day average of new cases per 100,000 residents, was up that week.

Statewide, 13,239 new COVID cases were reported over the weekend along with 65 deaths.

The number of hospitalized for COVID treatment grew by 49 to 2,956.

Ochsner

Ochsner St. Mary in Morgan City reported 22 COVID-positive patients Sunday, only two of whom had been vaccinated.

Across its hospitals in Louisiana and Mississippi, Ochsner saw an increase of six COVID-positive patients between Saturday and Sunday to 1,024. That broke a string of four consecutive daily decreases in COVID patients last week.

In Ocshner's Bayou Region, which includes Ochsner St. Mary, three other Ochsner hospitals and partner Terrebonne General, the number of COVID patients rose by three to 111 Sunday.
