Twin brothers charged in St. Martin homicide

Twin brothers face murder charges in the Oct. 18 shooting death of a St. Martin Parish teen, according to St. Martinville Police Chief Ricky Martin.
—Damontae Gardner, 20, St. Martinville, was arrested Wednesday on charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault and criminal damage to property.

Officers responded to a complaint of shots fired in the 200 block of Honore Street at around 11:30 p.m. Oct. 18. Brandon Kerlegan was found shot several times and was pro-nounced dead at the scene, according to Martin. A second victim, Bernard Mitchell IV, was grazed in the arm.

St. Martin Parish Sheriff Becket Breaux also reported these arrests:

—Charles, Marvin, 22, Valsin Street, Breaux Breaux, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of possession of Schedule II narcotics, prohibited acts and distribution of drug paraphernalia.

—Davis, Jarmal, 32, Tina Street, Breaux Bridge, was arrested Monday on a charge of violation of a protective order.

—Perrodin, Daniel, 41, George Touchet, Breaux Bridge, was arrested Monday on a charge of violation of protective order.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith reported these arrests

—Juvenile male, 16, Baldwin, at 10:12 a.m. Tuesday on a charge of simple assault. The boy was released into the custody of a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.
—Mandy Henry, 35, Dalton Drive, New Iberia, was arrested at 12:47 p.m. Tuesday on an active New Iberia Parish warrant for telephone calls-harassment. Henry was released on a summons to appear in New Iberia Nov. 30.

—Javion R. Taylor, 19, 1 James Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 2:53 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of pos-session of marijuana. Taylor was released on a summons to appear Jan. 7.

Morgan City Police Chief James F. Blair reported these arrests:

—Thomas St. Germain, 28, Marshall Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday on a charge of simple battery.

Officers were called after a complaint of a battery. Officers learned that after a verbal dispute, St. Germain struck one of the subjects involved in the dispute. St. Germain was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking.

—Henry Swiber III, 46, Louisa Street, Morgan City, was at 12:29 a.m. Tuesday on a charge of hit and run driving.

Swiber was arrested after being located on warrants held by MCPD. The warrants stemmed from an accident Oct. 17. Swiber was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department.

—Kelly Verdun, 49, Bayou Vista, was arrested at 5:11 p.m. Tuesday on a Morgan City Court warrant for failure to appear in connection with a charge of contempt of court.

Verdun was arrested at MCPD on a warrant from City Court of Morgan City on a Contempt of Court warrant. Ver-dun was booked into the Morgan City Police Department jail.

—Scott Treadway, 56, Naquin Street, Baldwin, was arrested at 6:22 p.m. Tuesday on charges of criminal tres-passing, disturbing the peace-intoxicated, possession of alcoholic beverages in a motor vehicle.

Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reported these arrests
—Shandrika L. Scott, 30, Blackwell Lane, Belle Rose, was arrested Monday on a charge of domestic abuse-aggravated assault.
Deputies responded to a request from Acadian Ambulance at the Belle Rose address in reference to a domestic incident with medical needs.

Deputies made contact with Scott as well as the victim. An investigation revealed that the two parties had been involved in a relationship that deteriorated over the past couple of weeks.

There were circumstances which brought the two together at the location of this incident and resulted in a con-frontation. That incident resulted in the victim being cut in the face by Scott.

Scott was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Facility and remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.

On Oct. 18, deputies commenced an investigation and identified two juvenile suspects.

On Oct. 20, a 15-year-old was charged by verified complaint and was released to the custody of his parents. The verified complaint encompassed seven vehicle burglaries.

On Monday, another 15-year-old was charged by verified complaint with seven vehicle burglaries. That sus-pect is in continued custody in a juvenile facility pending appropriate proceedings.
