Traffic stop leads to arrest in shooting

A traffic stop Monday helped Morgan City police arrest a man wanted in a drive-by shooting, Police Chief James F. Blair said.

—Caleb Marshall Daigle, 20, Levee Road, Morgan City, was arrested at 1:47 p.m. Monday on a warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated assault with a firearm, illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities and assault by drive-by shooting.

An officer conducted a traffic stop on La. 70 for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, the officer identified one of the occupants as Daigle.

A warrant check revealed the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office held active warrants for his arrest. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and incarceration.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith reported these arrests:

—Shaddrick Joseph Neddide, 44, James St, Morgan City, was arrested Monday on two warrants for the charges of aggravated battery and aggravated assault. Bond was set at $101,500.

—Blake J. Billiot, 35, La. 182, Franklin, was arrested Monday on charges of domestic abuse battery, criminal damage to property and violation of protective orders.

Billiot was released on a bond of $5,250.00

Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reported these arrests:

—Jamal Lee Starks, 23, Violet Street, Labadieville, was turned himself in Monday and was booked on two counts of third-degree rape.

On July 28, deputies responded to a rape complaint which allegedly occurred at a residence on Violet Street.

Detectives initiated an investigation in which the juvenile victim reported that she had been raped on two occa-sions in June of 2020 at the Violet Street location.

Detectives secured evidence supporting the victim’s allegations. The victim identified Starks as the offender.

Based on the results of the investigation, detectives requested and obtained an arrest warrant charging Starks with the crime.

Starks turned himself in to detectives on Monday and was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center
pending a bond hearing.

—Dylan Joseph Theriot, 19, Belle River Road, Pierre Part, was arrested Monday on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

On Sept. 28, Theriot reported an incident to the Sheriff’s Office in which an individual went to his home and at some point during a conversation, Theriot was threatened.

During the course of events, Theriot armed himself.

Theriot is a prior convicted felon and therefore cannot legally possess a firearm.

A warrant was obtained and on Monday, Theriot was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Deten-tion Center pending a bond hearing.

The other party to the incident, Thomas Joseph Fontenot, 21, Lee Drive, Pierre Part, was arrested Sept. 28 and booked on charges of aggravated assault, disturbing the peace and criminal trespass. He posted bond shortly thereafter.
