Three arrested in attack on Berwick man

Berwick police say they arrested three people Wednesday, two of them on aggravated assault charges, in connection with an attack on a Berwick resident as he left his home to go to work.
Arrested were:
--Kimberly Jones, 31, Lagonda Lane, Morgan City, at 5:47 a.m. Wednesday on charges of white lights to the rear prohibited, switched license plate and driving under suspension, and on warrants alleging principal to aggravated battery with a firearm and theft under $500.
--Kaleb Gros, 24, La. 182, Franklin, at 6:33 p.m. Wednesday on warrants alleging aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm.
--DaMarcus McNeal, 24, Cypremort Road, Franklin, at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday on warrants alleging aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm.
About 2:49 a.m. Wednesday, the Berwick Police Department received a call about a battery being committed and also that a male subject was struck with a firearm at the residence. Investigators responded and spoke with the victim, who explained that while he was leaving his residence for work, two men began punching him and then striking him with a firearm. The victim advised that the subjects then left the area.
An investigation was conducted, at which time video surveillance was collected. Later that morning, officers observed the possible suspect vehicle, and a traffic stop was conducted. Officers made contact with Jones, who was later arrested on various traffic violations, the Berwick Police Department said.
Berwick Investigators continued the investigation and developed McNeal and Gros as suspects, the department said. That led investigators to a residence in Bayou Vista on Lagonda Road.
With the assistance of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, a search warrant was later executed at Jones' residence in Bayou Vista, where McNeal and Gros were located. During this time, two firearms were located inside.
McNeal and Gros were placed under arrest by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Berwick Police Department. Following interviews and further evidence that was provided, warrants were prepared for the arrest of McNeal, Jones and Gros.
Following the booking process, McNeal and Gros were transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office.
