Suspects booked on meth, MDMA, heroin charges

Morgan City and Berwick police reported drug-related arrests Tuesday and early Wednesday, including a Morgan City man held on methamphetamine and ecstasy charges.
St. Mary Parish sheriff’s deputies also reported an arrest on heroin and meth possession charges.
Berwick
Police Chief David Leonard reported these arrests:
—Antonio Collins Jr., 37, Pluto Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 3:52 a.m. Wednesday on charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute MDMA (ecstasy), possession of marijuana, transactions involving drug proceeds, no license plate lights, no insurance and two tail lamps required.
At 2:55 a.m. Wednesday, officers observed a vehicle traveling on Robinson Road with no license plate lights and with only one working tail lamp. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle, and the driver was identified as Collins.
During the course of the stop, a K-9 scan was conducted by a Morgan City PD K-9 officer, and the dog alerted to the odor of narcotics inside of the vehicle. A search was conducted, and officers located 55.2 grams of methamphetamine, 158 MDMA tablets and 3 grams of marijuana.
The officers determined that the methamphetamine and MDMA tablets were destined for sale, and the currency recovered was derived from illegal drug transactions. Collins was placed under arrest and booked into the Berwick Jail, where he remains with no bond set.
—Jeremy P. Dufort, 18, Patty Road, Abbeville, at 12:09 a.m. Wednesday on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense), improper lane use and open alcohol container.
About 11:16 p.m. Tuesday, officers observed a vehicle traveling west on La. 182 swerving in and out of the lane of travel. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was identified as Dufort.
While speaking with Dufort, the officers noted that he exhibited signs of impairment on alcohol and administered field sobriety tests, which he performed poorly on. A search of the vehicle was conducted and officers located an open bottle of an alcoholic beverage inside.
Dufort was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department, where he submitted a proper breath sample of .148g%BAC. He was booked into the Berwick Jail and later released after posting a $3,000 bond.
Morgan City
Police Chief James F. Blair reported that the Morgan City Police Department responded to 39 calls for service over the last 24-hour reporting period nd made this arrest:
—Trevion Charles, 18, Franklin Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 3:19 p.m. Tuesday on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
St. Mary
Sheriff Blaise Smith advised that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 29 complaints and made these arrests:
—Eric Charles, 31, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:07 a.m. Wednesday on charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of heroin, possession of marijuana and obstruction of justice, and on a warrant alleging failure to appear on the charges of possession of alprazolam and possession of marijuana.
Bail was set at $50,000.
—Eddie Caldwell, 59, Raceland, was arrested at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on the charge of theft under $1,000. Bail has not been set.
—Jonathan Douglas Franklin Sr., 34, Morgan City, was arrested at 10:06 p.m. Tuesday on charges of sexual battery and obscenity. Franklin continues to be incarcerated at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.
