Suspect in Bayou Vista shooting arrested
Derrick Lee John Williams Jr., wanted in the Nov. 21 shooting of a woman in Bayou Vista, was arrested Thursday, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office said.
Williams, 20, Lafayette, was arrested at 11:33 a.m. on a warrant accusing him of attempted first-degree murder.
Deputies answering a call at 12:29 a.m. Nov. 21 to Saturn Road found a woman wounded by a gunshot, the Sheriff's Office said.
Detectives were brought in and through the investigation, Williams was developed as the suspect. Detectives also learned that Williams took the 1-year-old toddler from the residence and fled the scene, the Sheriff's Office said.
A level II Endangered Missing Child Advisory was issued by the Louisiana State Police.
Sometime later, the toddler was found to be safe.
On Thursday, U.S. Marshals located Williams in New Iberia and arrested him on the SMPSO warrant . Williams was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail and subsequently transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.
The investigation continues.
