Suspect in Baldwin homicide turns himself in
A man has turned himself in Sunday morning's shooting death on Baldwin's Main Street.
Anthony Hills, 34, faces a second-degree murder charge in the death of Brian Gibson Jr., 23, of Baldwin.
Sheriff Blaise Smith said the Sheriff's Office was called about 7:30 a.m. Sunday to assist the Baldwin Police Department with the shooting that occurred on Main Street in Baldwin. The victim, Gibson, was taken to a hospital. where he was pronounced deceased.
Detectives with the Sheriff's Office Investigations Section were called in to handle the investigation.
During the investigation, Hills was developed as the suspect and a warrant was obtained for his arrest. Contact was made with Hills, and he turned himself in to the Jeanerette Marshal’s Office. Iberia Parish jail records say Hills was arrested at 4:05 p.m. Sunday.
Hills was charged with second-degree murder and transported to the Iberia Parish Jail. Bail has been set at $1 million.
Sheriff Blaise Smith thanked the Baldwin Police Department and the Jeanerette Marshal’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.
