State of emergency declared for Lower St. Martin Parish due to flooding

A state of emergency has been declared for Lower St. Martin Parish due to the threat of flooding in Stephensville and Belle River.
St. Martin Parish President Chester Cedars announced the declaration in a press release Thursday morning. Bayou Estates Subdivision and Four Mile Bayou are closed to all traffic by non-residents due to the volume of rain the area received in recent hours.
“The rising river levels and recent torrential rains have the potential to cause flooding and subsequent damage in lower St. Martin Parish,” the parish government’s press release said.
The recent street closures are added to Adell and Edna streets and Landry Road, which were closed Wednesday.
“Please don’t attempt to drive through standing water, and don’t go around barricades that are in place throughout the flooded areas,” the press release said.
A self-serve sandbag location is available at Stephensville Park, 3257, La. 70.
Also, a no-wake zone was issued Wednesday until further notice for the Belle River and Stephensville areas.
