One-year-old Kehlani Williams has been found and is safe, the Sheriff's Office said. The infant was missing from Bayou Vista home after a Saturday night shooting.

St. Mary deputies seek Lafayette man in Bayou Vista shooting; toddler taken from home

Sheriff Blaise Smith is asking for the public’s help in an investigation into a shooting incident that happened Saturday night on Saturn Road in Bayou Vista.

At 12:29 p.m, deputies responded to a residence on Saturn Road in Bayou Vista after a 911 call about a wounded subject. Deputies discovered a local woman who was wounded by a gunshot.

Detectives were brought in and through the investigation, Derrick Lee John Williams Jr., 20, of Lafayette, was identified as the suspect.

Detectives learned that Williams took a 1-year-old toddler from the residence and fled the scene. A level II Endangered Missing Child Advisory was issued on behalf of the SMPSO by the Louisiana State Police.

In a press release, the Sheriff's Office said the child was later found and is safe.
