Police Chief David Leonard reported this arrest:
—Dallas Kirkland, 26, Todd Lane, Morgan City , was arrested at 12:51 a.m. Wednesday on charge of possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding 75 mph in a 55 mph zone, driving under suspen-sion and no insurance.
On Wednesday, an officer conducting stationary radar in the area of U.S. 90 observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle’s speed was indicated to be 75 mph where the posted speed limit in that area is 55 mph.
A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle, and officers made contact with Kirkland. During the course of the stop, Kirkland showed signs of nervousness, and an odor of marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted at which time officers located a bag of heroin in Kirkland’s wallet.
Also, in the vehicle, officers located several items of drug paraphernalia. A computer check showed that Kirkland’s driver’s license was suspended and the vehicle did not have an active insurance policy.
