St. Mary ban modified to allow burning with fire department approval
The St. Mary Parish burn ban has been modified to allow burning by private individuals with the permission of their local fire departments.
Parish President David Hanagriff signed the order modifying the burn ban on Monday.
Also this week, the Berwick town government announced that the Lighthouse Festival fireworks display will go on at 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4.
The burn ban had forced cancellation of the Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival fireworks during Labor Day weekend.
A Morgan City ordinance banning open burning without Fire Department approval remains in effect.
The statewide drought led the State Fire Marshal's Office to impose the burn ban Aug. 25.
