St. Joseph Church honors Cardinale, Guarisco

Sunday afternoon, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson held a dedication ceremony for the Frank Guarisco Parish Hall and the Sebby Cardinale Cemetery Circle Drive.
The opening addresses were by the Rev. Herb Bennerfield, pastor of St. Joseph; Bishop Doug, Deshotel of the Lafayette Diocese; and Rodney Grogan, Patterson mayor.
The late Sebby Cardinale dedicated much of his time to make sure that the St. Joseph Cemetery was in great shape, fixing things as there was a need.
Accepting the honor on behalf of the Cardinale family was his son, Jeff Cardinale.
“We feel it is a befitting way to show appreciation for a man who loved St. Joseph Parish, and devoted his time, energy and finances to help ensure it perpetual care,” Cardinale said. “Dad was a man of few words, he let his actions speak for him. … He led by example.”
The late Frank Guarisco was dedicated to making sure St. Joseph Parish got funding in a multitude of ways.
Accepting the honor on behalf of the Guarisco family was his daughter Denise Matherne.
“My family and I are deeply honored,” Matherne said. “My dad learned generosity and citizenship from his mother.
“He strived to build a better community. Not everybody can throw together a chicken dinner in a weekend, but my dad knew the secret … having a great network of people in the community.
“All you have to do is ask.”
Although he asked things from others for the betterment of the community, he also gave a lot as well.
She said, “He was always willing to give a hand up and a hand out to those in need, never expecting to be paid in turn.”
Deshotel gave the dedication and blessing for Sebby Cardinale Circle and the Frank Guarisco Hall followed by the unveiling of plaques. Refreshments followed in the Frank Guarisco Hall.
