Sheriff's Office: No third person involved in Bayou Vista death

.The woman whose body was discovered near a Bayou Vista home Sunday night sustained lacerations, and the second woman at the scene was found with a gunshot wound to her head, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post Tuesday.

Detectives have found no reason to believe a third person was involved in the incident.

Deputies responding to a welfare concern at 6:40 p.m. Sunday found the two women in a small structure behind a home on Southwest Road in Bayou Vista.

Heather Dupre of Bayou Vista, who had sustained the lacerations, was dead at the scene.

Skilan Gros, also of Bayou Vista, was air-lifted to a medical facility for treatment of the gunshot wound.

“This is a tragic incident, and we extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families and friends,” said Chief Deputy Gary Driskell. “Our detectives are still processing evidence, but we are confident in our determination that the incident was confined to these two people and not the result of a third person.”

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
