School safety

In the 2022-2023 school year, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office and other agencies have explored the ways in which they can help educators with school safety. On Monday, Capt. Chris Veillion teamed up with Dwayne Doucet of Gridiron Safety Solutions to train educators at Hanson Memorial High School and Junior High in lifesaving techniques. The training had two parts. Doucet taught CPR, and Veillion taught the Stop the Bleeding and Tourniquet Training part of the course. Last spring, the SMPSO participated in the ALERRT training, which certified us to teach civilians to respond to an active attack.
