School Board will consider superintendent's contract
Extension of Superintendent Teresa Bagwell’s contract and consideration of a resolution calling for a special election for a tax renewal are on the St. Mary Parish School Board’s April agenda for Thursday’s meeting.
The board will consider extending Bagwell’s contract a month after she received an “excellent” rating in each of the seven areas she was graded. Overall, she received an excellent rating, board President Kenneth Alfred announced after the board reconvened in open session after about 40 minutes behind closed doors for her routine evaluation.
Also during Thursday’s meeting, the board will consider adopting a resolution for a special election in Consolidated School District No. 5 for the continuation of an ad valorem tax.
School system Chief Financial Officer Alton Perry told the board last month if the resolution is approved, it would be sent to the State Bond Commission and subsequently placed on the October election ballot.
The board also will consider adopting two resolutions related to the recently passed 0.45% sales and use tax. The new tax grants annual pay raises to school teachers and support staff.
In other action the board will:
—Hear from James Perez about the school system’s group health insurance premium to claims summary.
—Recognize St. Mary Parish Principal of the Year Shantell Toups of J.S. Aucoin Elementary in Amelia.
—Consider a proclamation for May 7 as School Lunch Hero Day.
Thursday’s meeting will begin at 5 p.m. at the Central Office Complex in Centerville.
