Sanders named assistant superintendent in St. Mary
Dr. Rachel Sanders will soon become assistant superintendent of St. Mary Parish public schools, succeeding Dr. Joseph Stadalis, who is retiring.
A transition period will begin June 1, Superintendent Dr. Teresa Bagwell said in a press release.
Stadalis has worked in the St. Mary Parish system for 32 years, beginning with a stint as a Morgan City High physics teacher.
He is also a former J.S. Aucoin Elementary and Morgan City Junior High principal. Stadalis served as special education compliance officer and secondary instructional supervisor before being appointed assistant superintendent in 2019
"His genuine passion for public education and desire to improve the learning experience of every student encapsulates his distinguished career," Bagwell said.
Sanders began 23 years ago as an English teacher at Patterson High School, eventually being promoted to assistant principal of Morgan City High School before returning to Patterson High School as principal, where she earned the honor of Louisiana State Principal of the Year Semifinalist in 2016. Her extensive leadership experience also expanded into positions as a science program manager and supervisor of the alternative program.
More recently, Sanders has served as the school system’s supervisor of high schools and vocational programs.
"The dedication and student-oriented vision of both leaders is highly regarded and has contributed to the ongoing progress of St. Mary Parish Schools," Bagwell said.
