Report of drug activity leads to arrests

A call about suspected drug activity at a Patterson business led to the arrest of a Rayne man on charges alleging drugs, paraphernalia and weapons in the possession of a felon, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith said in a news release.
—Anthony Dequinton Gant, 38, of East Branch Street in Rayne, was arrested at 12:35 p.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of marijuana and resisting an officer by providing false information.
Gant was also arrested on charges of possession of heroin, possession of marijuana, possession of Schedule I controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute (MDMA), possession of a Schedule II drugs with intent to distribute (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest or officer, possession of a firearm by a felon and illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.
Deputies were dispatched to a local business in Patterson in reference to drug activity. The deputies made contact with a person who stated that there was a vehicle parked in the parking lot and the occupants were dealing drugs. The deputies made contact with the occupants, one identified as Gant.
Through the investigation, drugs, drug paraphernalia, and weapons belonging to Gant were found in the vehicle. Dispatch also advised the deputy that Gant held an active warrant for his arrest. He was jailed with no bail set.
Smith also advised that the Sheriff’s Office responded to 38 complaints and the following arrests were made:
—Shelby Lee, 36, of Landry Lane in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:06 a.m. Monday on a warrant for domestic abuse child endangerment law. A deputy was traveling on La. 182 East when he observed a car cross over the center line. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Lee. Dispatch advised the deputy that Lee held an active warrant for her arrest. She was jailed with bail set at $3,500.
—Yvishia Sherrell Levine, 29, of Railroad Avenue in Patterson, was arrested at 6:27 p.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of criminal neglect of family. A deputy was dispatched to a residence on Keller’s Lane in reference to a disturbance. The deputy made contact with Levine and dispatch advised the deputy that Levine held an active warrant for her arrest. She was jailed with bail set at $1,422.
—Justin Elie Fabre, 32, of Francis Street in Berwick, was arrested at 6:33 p.m. Monday on a St. Martin Parish warrant for failure to appear on the charge of simple battery. A deputy was dispatched to a residence on Francis Street in reference to locating Fabre, who held an active warrant for his arrest. The deputy made contact with Fabre and he was jailed with no bail set.
—Harold Allen Sheets Jr., of Everitt Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:19 p.m. Monday on two warrants for failure to appear on the charges of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of marijuana. A transportation deputy made contact with Sheets when she transported him to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. He was jailed with no bail set.
Morgan City Police Chief James F. Blair reported that the Morgan City Police Department responded to 50 calls for service and the following arrests were made:
—Madison Gonteski, 20, of La. 662 in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:30 a.m. Monday on warrants for failure to appear to pay probation fee and to pay fine. Gonteski was transported from the Assumption Parish jail to the Morgan City Police Department and booked on warrants from City Court of Morgan City.
—Sherry Cooper, 34, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:14 a.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to appear to pay probation fee. An officer on La. 182 saw Cooper walking and knew of an outstanding warrant for her arrest from City Court of Morgan City. Cooper was stopped and the warrant was confirmed. She was jailed.
—John Ross, 31, of Levee Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:54 p.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to appear for arraignment for simple battery. An officer saw Ross driving a vehicle on Federal Avenue and knew of an outstanding warrant for his arrest from City Court of Morgan City. Ross was stopped and the warrant confirmed. He was jailed.
—Caswick Clark, 32, of Williams Avenue in Houma, was arrested at 2:32 p.m. on Monday on charges of speeding, no child restraint, no driver’s license, resisting an officer with false information, warrant probation and parole.
An officer patrolling a school zone observed a vehicle he believed to be speeding. The vehicle speed was checked with radar and found the driver was speeding 28 mph in a 15 mph school zone. The officer stopped the driver, who at that time gave the officer a false name.
The officer also noticed that the driver had a small child who was unrestrained and no car seat in the car. The driver was later identified as Clark. The officer learned that Clark did not have a driver’s license and had a warrant from Probation and Parole. He was jailed.
—Conley T Jones, 70, of Joseph Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:20 p.m. Monday on a warrant for eight counts failure to appear to pay fine. Jones was arrested at the Morgan City Police Department for warrants from City Court. He was jailed.
—Nyjul Hillebrandt, 23, of Lawrence Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:51 p.m. Monday on charges of no driver’s license, improper lane use, stop sign violation and no turn signals. Officers observed a vehicle cross the center line as it was traveling on Railroad Avenue. The driver also failed to stop at a sign or use his turn signal at the intersection of Federal Avenue and Railroad Avenue. The officer conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Hillebrandt. The officer learned that Hillebrandt did not have a driver’s license at which time he was placed under arrest. He was jailed.
—Tyler Davidson, 26, of Pharr Street in Berwick, was arrested at 2:08 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant for possession of Schedule I controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine). An officer in the area of Brashear Avenue saw Davidson and knew of outstanding warrants for his arrest. The warrant stemmed from an investigation by detectives in which Davidson was found to have suspected methamphetamine. The officer made contact with Davidson, advised him of the warrant and placed him under arrest. He was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Garrett Grogan reported the following arrests:
—Mekeltinay Tawana Talver, 40, of Tall Timbers in Patterson, was arrested at 1:38 p.m. Monday on a charge of disturbing the peace. She was jailed and released on a $314 bond.
—Juana Montellano, 29, of Bell Avenue in Metarie, was arrested at 12:33 a.m. Tuesday on a charge of speeding 73 mph in a 55 mph zone and no driver’s license. He was jailed and released on a $565 bond.
Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reported the following arrests:
—Madison Hope Gonteski, 20, of Tall Timbers Drive in Patterson, was arrested Sunday on a fugitive warrant for Morgan City Police Department.
An ICE unit on assignment observed an individual on Aristle Road in Bayou L’Ourse. The deputy noted that a female subject was walking against traffic. The subject provided identifying information and database warrant check revealed that Gonteski was a fugitive from Morgan City on drug related charges. She was jailed and is awaiting transfer to Morgan City Police Department.
—Nicholas Walter Grimmett, 38, of South Verret Street in Morgan City, was arrested Sunday on a charge of felony domestic abuse battery.
Deputies responded to the complaint and made contact with the alleged victim who is the domestic partner of Grimmett. The victim advised that she was at an outing and when she got home, her spouse began making accusatory remarks towards her than began to repeatedly kick and beat her.
Deputies filed warrants against Grimmett. He was jailed and later released on a $35,000 bond.
Berwick Police Chief David Leonard Sr. reported there were no arrests.
