Police intervene in domestic cases

Editor’s Note: The charges listed here and the narratives that go with them are provided by the police agencies that made the arrests. Guilt or innocence has not been determined in court.)

Area law enforcement agencies made seven arrests over the weekend on domestic abuse charges, including one in Berwick that also involved a drunken driving charge.

Berwick
Police Chief David Leonard reported these arrests:
—Nicole Crochet 38, Pierre Part, was arrested at 10:10 p.m. Saturday on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and domestic abuse battery.
At 9:32 p.m. Saturday,  Berwick officers were dispatched to River Road for a disturbance and also a possible impaired driver. Crochet was identified as the person causing the disturbance.
During the course of the investigation, it was learned that Crochet had committed a battery on her daughter.  Also during the investigation, officers learned that Crochet had driven to the scene and was suspected of being impaired.
A field sobriety test was conducted with poor results, and Crochet was later transported to Berwick Police Department.
Crochet then submitted to the state’s breath test with the results with a B.A.C. of  .153g%.
Crochet was booked into the Berwick Jail on the charges. She remained incarcerated with bond waiting to be set.
—Dawn R. White, 45, River Road, Berwick, was arrested at 7:20 p.m. Saturday on a charge of domestic abuse battery.
At 6:36 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a residence in the 1900 block of River Road in reference to a domestic disturbance in progress.
Officers arrived and identified White as one of the individuals involved. After speaking with all parties involved, officers were able to determine that White committed a battery upon the victim.
These claims were corroborated by witness statements and physical marks on the victim. White was placed under arrest and booked into the Berwick Jail. She was released after posting a $2,500 bond.
—Jakahri G. Celestine, 24, Hardin Street, New Iberia, was arrested at 12:05 p.m. Friday on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of minors, violation of the uniform controlled dangerous substance law (drug-free zone), and on a 16th Judicial District Court warrant for failure to appear for traffic arraignment.
At 11:47 a.m. Friday, officers responded to the 100 block of Guzzetta Drive in reference to a domestic disturbance in progress.
Celestine was identified as one of the individuals involved in the disturbance. While speaking with Celestine, officers could smell an odor of marijuana on his person. He admitted to officers that he had marijuana on him but it was now in his vehicle, and he gave officers permission to retrieve the marijuana.
Officers recovered the marijuana and paraphernalia from the vehicle. Through investigation, officers located more paraphernalia inside of the home and found three young children present inside the home.
The residence is located within the Berwick Housing Authority, which is a posted drug-free zone.
He was also found to have an outstanding warrant through the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. Celestine was placed under arrest and booked into the Berwick Jail where he was released after posting a bond of $10,445.
—Juvenile male, 13, Berwick, was at 9:55 p.m. Friday on a Berwick Police Department warrant for simple criminal damage to property.
At 9:33 p.m. Friday, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of Russo Street for a complaint of a marijuana odor coming from a residence.
While handling that complaint, officers came into contact with the aforementioned juvenile and took him into custody on the outstanding warrant.
The warrant stemmed from an investigation in which the juvenile intentionally busted the glass on a door at a property on Francis Street The incident occurred on April 1, and the juvenile admitted to busting the window during an interview with his parent.
At the completion of that investigation, an arrest warrant was prepared. The juvenile was booked at the Berwick Police Department and released to his mother pending juvenile court proceedings. 

Morgan City
Police Chief James F. Blair reported that over the last 72-hour period, the Morgan City Police Department responded to 106 calls of service and made these arrests:
—Ronald Keith Williams Jr., 42, South Marigny Circle, Duson, was arrested at 6:40 a.m. Friday on a charge of criminal damage to property less than $1,000.
—Shannon Ashmore Wainwright, 49, Pecan Street, Patterson, was arrested at 9:22 a.m. Friday on warrants for failure to appear for arraignment in 16th Judicial District Court and 6th Ward Court warrants for two counts of failure to appear for arraignment and contempt of court.
—Earl Lynn Perro, 39, Cleveland Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:13 p.m. Friday on a charge of entry on or remaining in places or on land after forbidden.
—Travis Ruffin Jr., 22, Susan Drive, Morgan City, was arrested at 2:43 a.m. Saturday on a charge of simple battery.
—Jerome Williams, 43, Second Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 2:47 a.m. Saturday on charges of simple battery and resisting an officer.
—Devan Nicole Serpa, 35, Shady Grove, Patterson, was arrested at 11:42 a.m. Sunday on a 16th Judicial District Court warrant for failure to appear for arraignment.
—David Lenes Aucoin Jr., 24, Cremo Lane, Patterson, was arrested at 11:42 a.m. Sunday on a charge of domestic abuse battery and on a 6th Ward Court. warrant for failure to appear for arraignment.
—Kierra Alexis Paddio, 22, Amelia Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:11 p.m. Sunday on a charge of domestic abuse (child endangerment law).
—Brandon Joseph Lancaster, 26, Baton Rouge, was arrested at 8:52 p.m. Sunday on a 6th Ward Court warrant for two counts of failure to pay fine.

St. Mary
Sheriff Blaise Smith advised that over the last 72-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 95 complaints and made these arrests:
—Darrell Jerome Traylor, 62, Jeanerette, was arrested at 11:35 p.m. Saturday on a charge of domestic abuse battery. Traylor was released on a $2,500 bond.
—Devin Hidalgo, 19, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:33 a.m. Friday on charges of proper equipment required on vehicles, turning movements and required signals, and possession of a legend drug without prescription. Hidalgo was released on a summons to appear July 22.  
—Jerral Wade Prestonbach, 31, Patterson, was arrested at 2:57 p.m. Friday on charges of littering and possession of drug paraphernalia. Prestonbach also held two warrants for failure to appear on the charges of possession of synthetic cannabinoids, remaining where forbidden and theft. Bail was set at $3822.50. 
 —Benjamin Roosevelt Cheramie, 50, Morgan City, was arrested at 8:15 p.m. Friday on three warrants for failure to appear on the charges of criminal neglect of family and parole violation. Bail was set at $71,221.94.
—Leslie Bonvillain, 41, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:10 a.m. Saturday on a charge of theft by shoplifting. Bonvillain was released on a summons to appear July 22. 
—Morris Veiryell Garrison, 26, Patterson, was arrested at 11:39 a.m. Saturday on a charge of lamps are required and possession of marijuana. Garrison was released on a summons to appear July 22.
—Jon Ross Ireland, 35, Franklin, was arrested at 9:59 a.m. Sunday on a charge of driving on roadway laned for traffic and driving under suspension. Ireland was released on a summons to appear July 22.
—Brian Keith Fontenot, 43, Franklin, was arrested at 12:14 p.m. Sunday on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of crack cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and turning movements and required signals.
Fontenot was released on a $7,500 bond.
 —Carlos Wayne Joseph, 30, Jeanerette, was arrested at 2:48 p.m. Sunday on charges of proper equipment required on vehicles, possession of Schedule I drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of persons under 17, and two counts of no child restraing.
Joseph was released on a $7,750 bond.
—Milton Burley Green Jr., 34, Franklin, was arrested at 4:57 p.m. Sunday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of simple criminal damage to property. Traylor was released on a $2,500 bond.

St. Martin
Sheriff Becket Breaux reported these arrests:
—Russell Aucoin, 25, Pinnaud Street, St. Martinville, was arrested Sunday on a charge of illegal possession of stolen things, careless operation, flight from an officer and driving without a proper license.
—Damien Gibson, 33, Edna Street, Morgan City, operating while intoxicated (first offense).
—Blair Marusak, 30, Rosseau Street, St. Martinville, was arrested Sunday on charges of criminal conspiracy and theft ($1,000-$4,999).
—Tyler Simon, 27, Marion, Broussard, was arrested Sunday on charges of criminal conspiracy and theft $1,000-$4,999.
—Dennis Boyd, 48, Coteau Rodaire Highway, Arnaudville, was arrested Saturday by the Breaux Bridge Police Department on a charge of simple burglary of a movable or immovable.
—Harold Arceneaux, 53, Nettie Street, Breaux Bridge, was arrested Friday by the Breaux Bridge Police Department on charges of principal to attempted second-degree murder/non-negligent manslaughter and principal to attempted armed robbery and on a warrant for failure to appear.
—Dwayne Jones, 18, Port Street, St. Martinville, was arrested Friday on a charge of simple robbery.
—Jayvien Mallery, 20, Cypress Island Highway, St. Martinville, was arrested Friday on an extradition warrant.
—Michael McPherson, 64, Brant Street, Breaux Bridge, was arrested Friday by the Breaux Bridge Police Department was arrested on a charge of domestic abuse simple battery.

Franklin
Police Chief Morris Beverly said the Franklin Police Department responded to 51 complaints over the past weekend and made these arrests:
—Milton Green Jr., 34, Willow Street, Franklin, was arrested at 12:49 p.m. Sunday on the charges of domestic abuse battery by strangulation and aggravated battery. Milton was booked, processed and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.
 —Raven Carr, 25, of Donna Drive, Franklin, was arrested at 9:44 p.m. Sunday on a charge of aggravated assault. Carr was booked, processed and released on a $1,500 bond.
 —Christopher Marquez, 35, Bernard Street, Patterson, was arrested at 3:35 a.m. Monday on the charges of possession of marijuana (first offense) and possession of drug paraphernalia (first offense). Marquez was booked, processed and held on a $3,500 bond.
