Police: Four teens arrested after school fights

Staff Report

A fight aboard a Berwick school bus landed three teens in trouble with the law, and another youth was arrested two hours later and accused of fighting at school, arrest reports say.

Berwick
Police Chief David Leonard reported these arrests:
—Juvenile male, 13, was arrested at 8:16 a.m. Tuesday on a charge of disturbing the peace (fighting).
—Juvenile female, 17, was arrested at 8:16 a.m. Tuesday on a charge of disturbing the peace (fighting).
—Juvenile female, 14, was arrested at 8:16 a.m. Tuesday on a charge of disturbing the peace (fighting).
About 8 a.m. Tuesday, the Berwick Police Department received a call from school personnel that three juveniles were involved in a physical altercation while on the bus on the way to school. Officers arrived at the school, and the juveniles were identified and placed under arrest.
The juveniles were transported to the Berwick Police Department where they were booked and released to parents pending a court hearing.
—Juvenile female, 14, was arrested at 10:07 a.m. Tuesday on a charge of disturbing the peace (fighting).
About 9:55 a.m. Tuesday, the Berwick Police Department received a call from a local school advising that a girl hit another student for unknown reasons. Officers responded to the school and located the girl, who was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department.
She was booked and released to a parent pending a court hearing.
—Tanner Scarbrough, 21, Bayou Black Drive, Gibson, was arrested at 9:51 p.m. Tuesday on charges of carless operation of a motor vehicle, no driver’s license and possession of methamphetamine.
About 9:30 p.m., an officer in the area of La. 182 observed a vehicle traveling in a careless manner. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle, and officers made contact with Scarbrough.
During the course of the stop, it was learned that Scarbrough did not have a driver’s license. An odor of marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle, and a search was conducted.
As a result of the search, officers located methamphetamine inside the vehicle, which Scarbrough admitted belonged to him.
Scarbrough was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department, where he was booked and remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
—Quintin Douglas, 29, Tiffany Street, Patterson, was arrested at 1:47 a.m. Wednesday on charges of license plate required, improper lane usage, possession with intent to distribute marijuana (over 28 grams), possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, transactions involving drug proceeds and possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Johnathan Caldwell, 24, Leo Drive, Patterson, was arrested at 1:47 a.m. Wednesday on charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana (more than 28 grams) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
About 1:20 a.m. Wednesday, an officer in the area of La. 182 observed a vehicle cross over the fog line and observed that the vehicle did not have a functioning license plate light. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle, and officers made contact with Douglas and Caldwell.
While speaking with Douglas, marijuana pieces were observed on his lap and an odor of marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was done, at which time a quantity of marijuana was located along with a firearm.
Douglas was found to have a large amount of U.S. currency on his person. Through the course of the investigation, it was learned that the marijuana was intended to be sold and that both Douglas and Caldwell shared involvement in the selling of the marijuana.
Both were placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department, where they remain incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
It was also learned that both had active warrants through other agencies. Douglas and Caldwell remain incarcerated pending a bond hearing.

St. Mary
Sheriff Blaise Smith advised that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 39 complaints and made these arrests:
—Danayre Elizabeth Smith, 26, Patterson, was arrested at 8:46 a.m. Tuesday on a charge of hit and run. Smith was released on a summons to appear July 22.
—Randeisha Marie Jones, 25, Patterson, was arrested at 10:56 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of simple battery and simple criminal damage to property. Jones was released on a summons to appear July 22.
—Asa A. Sam, 36, Baldwin, was arrested at 3:54 p.m. Tuesday on charges of improper lane usage, open container, and possession of schedule II drugs. Sam was released on a $3,000 bond.
—Stephanie Parker Joseph, 54, Franklin, was arrested at 1:42 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for the charges of simple battery. Joseph was released on a $600 bond.
—Marlene Y. Owens, 58, Centerville, was arrested at 1:36 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for the charge of simple battery. Owens was released on a $600 bond.

Morgan City
Police Chief James F. Blair reported that over the last 24-hour period, the Morgan City Police Department responded to 41 calls for service and made this arrest:
—Craig Albarado, 57, North Sterling Street, Lafayette, was arrested at 9:01 p.m. Tuesday on a 16th Judicial District Court warrant for failure to appear for trial .

Assumption
Sheriff Leland Falcon reported this arrest:
— Latisha Shankeshia Davis, 40, Pugh Street, Paincourtville, was arrested Monday on a charge of aggravated second-degree battery.
On April 1, deputies were dispatched to a Pugh Street address in connection with a domestic disturbance. They made contact with the alleged victim.
Deputies learned that Davis and the victim had an argument, and that led to the victim being stabbed in the back. Deputies were able to identify the potential suspect as Davis.
During the ensuing investigation, deputies recovered a weapon as well as some evidence corroborating the victim’s description of events.
The suspect had departed the scene, but on April 2 a warrant was issued for her arrest.
Davis was arrested on Monday and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center and released on a $250,000 bond.
Franklin
Police Chief Morris Beverly said the Police Department responded to 21 complaints over the past 48 hours and made these arrests:
—Gerald Sophus, 31, Samuel Street, Franklin, was arrested at 10 a.m. Monday on a warrant dated April 14 on charges of theft, simple kidnapping and battery of a dating partner. Sophus was booked, processed and released on a $1,000 bond.
—Aalyiah Batiste, 20, Cayce Street, Franklin, was arrested at 9:26 p.m. Tuesday on charges of disturbing the peace (fighting) and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Batiste was booked, processed and released on a $2,000 bond.
—A’Jontai Robinson, 22, Pecan Drive, Franklin, was arrested at 9:36 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of disturbing the peace (fighting) and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Robinson was booked, processed and released on a $2,000 bond.

St. Martin
Sheriff Becket Breaux reported these arrests:
—Joshua Bourda, 35, Main Street, St. Martinville, was arrested Monday on charges of manufacture, distribution or possession with intent to distribute of Schedule II drugs; possession with intent to distribute Schedule I drugs; clandestine lab; and violation of controlled dangerous substance laws.
—Dominique Jordan, 29, Delcambre Road, Breaux Bridge, was arrested Monday on a charge of domestic abuse aggravated assault.
—Joshua Labit, 36, Petite Road, Lafayette, was arrested Monday on a hold for the U.S. Marshals Service.
—Lamar Weeden, 48, Andrew Drive, St. Martinville, was arrested Monday by the Louisiana State Police on charges of manufacture, distribution or possession with intent to distribute Schedule II drugs; transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses; and simple possession of marijuana.
—Corey Jackson, 43, Grand Anse Highway, Breaux Bridge, was arrested Tuesday on warrants for failure eto appear on charges of careless operation, proof insurance, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, operating a vehicle with a suspended license, open container and no seat belt.
—Courtland Landry, 23, Patin Street, Breaux Bridge, was arrested Tuesday by the Breaux Bridge Police Department on charges of attempted second-degree murder/non-negligent manslaughter, aggravated criminal damage to property and aggravated assault.
—Eugene Meche, 56, Grand Anse Highways, Breaux Bridge, was arrested Tuesday on charges of attempted simple burglary of a movable or immovable and criminal trespass.
