Morgan City man arrested in stabbing

A Willard Street man faces an aggravated battery charge after a stabbing, Morgan City Police Chief James F. Blair said:
—Darell Jonic Gash, 39, Willard Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 2:50 p.m. Monday on charges of aggravated second-degree battery and obstruction of justice-tampering with evidence.
Officers were called to an La. 182 address for an individual requesting medical assistance. They learned the individual had several lacerations to their arms, leg and torso. Officers learned Gash had approached the victim, striking them serval times then produced a knife. Gash then stabbed the victim several times before fleeing the scene.
The victim was transported to a medical facility for treatment. Officers located Gash at a Federal Avenue residence and placed under arrest. He was transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and incarceration.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith reported these arrests:
—Gregory Joseph Mitchell, 61, Chitimacha Trail, Charenton, was arrested at 12:36 a.m. Tuesday on charges of possession of marijuana, failure/owner secure registration and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mitchell was released on a summons to appear Aug. 21.
—Kenan Jones, 21, Nichole Street, Berwick, was arrested at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday on charges of possession of marijuana, improper lane usage and driving under suspension. Jones was released on a summons to appear Aug. 21.
—Cole Zephrien Fruge, 28, Saturn Road, Bayou Vista, was arrested at 2:15 p.m. Monday on a warrant for possession of Schedule II drugs (methamphetamine). Fruge continues to be incarcerated at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.
—Jamon Clayborn Bias, 39, Egle Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:14 p.m. Monday on charges of aggravated flight from officer, improper lane usage and driving under suspension. No bail has been set.
Berwick Police Chief David Leonard reported this arrest:
—Devin Thornton, 29, Jamie Court, Morgan City, was arrested at 8:35 a.m. Monday on a charge of domestic abuse battery-strangulation (Berwick warrant).
Thornton walked into the Berwick Police Department and turned himself in on a warrant that Berwick police held for his arrest. Thornton was booked into the Berwick jail on the warrant and was later released on a $1,500 bond.
The warrant stems from an investigation that began Saturday in which a complainant alleged that she and Thornton had a verbal altercation that turned in to Thornton allegedly committing a battery and also grabbing her around the neck briefly choking her. It was learned that the alleged incident occurred Thursday.
An investigation was conducted in which the victim and Thornton were interviewed which resulted in a warrant being prepared for Thornton’s arrest. The investigation is still on going.
