Morgan City Council looking for new marshal

A full agenda awaits the Morgan City Mayor and Council at Tuesday’s meeting, including the appointment of an interim city marshal.
The move is expected to be made after Robert Darce, whose term began in January, tendered his resignation April 9. The council will consider appointing Teddy Liner as his interim replacement until an election can be held.
The council is expected to authorize a resolution to call for that special election to fill his vacancy, too. The primary election is anticipated to be held Oct. 9, and the general election is scheduled for Nov. 12.
In other action, the council will consider resolutions for engaging special council for a civil service issue, website design agreement, authorizing a signature for a cooperative endeavor agreement with the town of Berwick for a firetruck donation and reallocation of funds for the sewer department.
The council will recognize local Eagle Scouts: Zan Alcina, Hunter Bella, Ethan Blanco and Reid Lodrigue and hear from Bill Goessl for a request to hold the Bayou BBQ Bash.
The council also will hear from Cajun Coast Visitors and Convention Bureau Executive Director Carrie Stansbury about Bayou Shopping Days, and Kevin Williams will appear before the council concerning the Morgan City High School Alumni Tournament.
In other action, the council will receive an update on properties at 1330 Oil Tank Alley, 107 Oak St. and 514 Federal Ave. as well as hear from city Compliance Officer Pete Lawton about condemning properties at 310 Fifth St. and 313 Iowa St.
Among the other items on the agenda is the first reading of an ordinance adopting the city’s millage rates for the 2021 tax year and the second reading, public hearing and adoption of the Morgan City Development District Commission.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium. It is open to the public. the public.
