Man booked on attempted murder charge, accused of hitting woman with vehicle

A Berwick man faces an attempted murder charge, accused of striking a woman with a vehicle in the parking lot of a Patterson shopping center. He was also arrested by St. Mary deputies on five drug-related charges

Patterson

Chief Garrett Grogan reported these arrests:

--Cameron Nicholas Strother, 23, Parro Lane, Berwick, was arrested by Patterson police at 5:18 p.m. Sunday on charges of battery of a dating partner, domestic abuse battery (child endangerment), possession of a firearm by a felon and attempted second-degree murder.

Strother was arrested at 5:23 p.m. Saturday by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, no child restraint, possession of THC wax, possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm by a felon and illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a person under 17.

Strother also held an active warrant with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. He is being held at the St. Mary Law Enforcement Center with no bond set

Strother drove with a woman to Patterson on Saturday, Grogan said, and forced her from the vehicle in a shopping center parking lot. Then he turned and struck her with the vehicle, Grogan said.

St. Mary deputies responding to an alert from Patterson arrested Strother on Saturday on the drug and weapon charges. After he was taken to the St. Mary Law Enforcement Center, the Patterson charges were added.

The woman was treated and released from a local hospital, Grogan said.

--Arthur N. Gant, 64, Cleveland Street, Patterson, was arrested at 8:53 p.m. Saturday on charges of simple assault, disturbing the peace (intoxicated) and criminal damage to property. Gant was incarcerated at the Patterson PD Jail with no bond set.

St. Mary

Sheriff Blaise Smith reported that over the last 72-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 97 complaints and made these arrests:

--James Darren Robinson, 54, Morgan City, was arrested at 4:11 p.m. Saturday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on the charges of possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana. Robinson also held a Morgan City Police Department warrant alleging failure to appear on the charges of disturbing the peace (intoxicated) and contempt of court. Bail has not been set at this time.

--Dustin Paul Fitch, 35, Bayou Vista, was arrested at 9:26 p.m. Sunday on a charge of simple burglary. Bail has not yet been set at this time.

--Leroy Homer Heaton, 35, New Orleans, was arrested at 1:30 a.m. Monday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on a charge of disturbing the peace (fighting). Bail has not yet been set at this time.

--Rodrick Anthony Montreal Hunter, 31, Berwick, was arrested at 8:27 a.m. Sunday on a charge of introduction of contraband into a penal institution and on a warrant alleging failure to appear on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana. Hunter also held an MCPD warrant alleging failure to appear on the charges of simple battery and contempt of court. Bail has not yet been set at this time.

--Cornelius Dondre Grimm, 28, Franklin, was arrested at 3:26 p.m. Sunday on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a legend drug without prescription, possession of Schedule IV drugs and telephone calls (harassment).

Bail has not been set at this time.

Morgan City

Chief Chad M. Adams reported that the Morgan City Police Department responded to 126 calls for service over the last 72-hour reporting period and made these arrests:

--Jordan Trejo, 29, Amis Street, Houma, was arrested at 6:58 p.m. Friday on a charge of resisting an officers and two counts of simple burglary.

--Leroy James Bailey, 37, Francis Drive, Morgan City, was arrested at 7:40 p.m. Friday on charges of failure to appear for trial (6th Ward Morgan City Court) and failure to appear for revocation (16th Judicial District Court).

--Curtis Paul Gaudet, 50, Vivian Street, Morgan City, was arrested 7:30 p.m. Saturday on two counts of failure to appear for trial (6th Ward Morgan City Court) and a count of failure to appear for trial (16th Judicial Distrct Court).

Franklin

Interim Chief Tina Thibodeaux reported that the Franklin Police Department responded to 15 complaints over the weekend and made these arrests:

--Wendy Istre, 42, Oneida Street, Charenton, was arrested at 5:28 p.m. Sunday on a warrant dated March 5 alleging six counts of theft. Istre was additionally arrested on a charge of theft. Istre was booked, processed and released on a $10,500 bond.
