Man arrested on drug charge after being stopped for 107 mph

Drug arrests kept local law enforcement authorities busy over the weekend, including one case in which a man is accused of possessing marijuana while he sped through Amelia at 107 mph.
In St. Mary, another traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a Baldwin man, who is accused of possessing six different varieties of illegal drugs.
Assumption
Sheriff Leland Falcon reported this arrest:
—Ahmaric Smith, 20, Louise Street, Thibodaux, was arrested Friday on charges of speeding 107 mph in a 60 mph zone, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and driving without a license.
A uniformed patrol deputy observed an eastbound vehicle on U.S. 90 near Amelia commit a traffic violation. The deputy initiated a stop of that vehicle and immediately noted a strong odor of suspected marijuana as he approached the suspected vehicle.
The deputy made contact with and proceeded to interview the driver, now identified as Smith.
During the interview process, the suspect acknowledged that he was possessing a quantity of marijuana in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of marijuana.
Smith was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention pending a bond hearing.
St. Mary
Sheriff Blaise Smith advised that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 106 complaints and made these arrests:
—Reginald Howard Layton, 41, Baldwin, was arrested at 1:59 a.m. Sunday by the K9 Section on charges of driving under suspension, possession of marijuana, possession of Schedule II drugs with intent to distribute, possession of Schedule I drugs, possession of Schedule II drugs, possession of Schedule IV drugs, violation of protective orders and possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.
A K9 deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle and made contact with the driver, Layton. During the stop, dispatch confirmed that Layton’s license was suspended. K9 Chara was deployed to conduct an open-air sniff around the vehicle and showed a positive odor response. The K9 deputy subsequently located crack cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy pills, Xanbars, oxycodone, and hydrocodone inside the vehicle along with a semiautomatic pistol.
Dispatch advised that Layton had a protective order against him and should not be in possession of a firearm. Dispatch further advised that Layton held an active warrant from Beaumont, Texas.
Layton was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail has been set on the charges, and Layton will also be held for another agency
—Russell Lee Pfotenhauer, 39, Franklin, was arrested at 2:07 p.m. Friday on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of Schedule II drugs.
Pfotenhauer also held a warrant for failure to appear on charges of no seat belt and failure to honor a written promise to appear.
Pfotenhauer was released on an $8,625 bond.
—Constance Nicole Bertrand, 32, Berwick, was arrested at 2:07 p.m. Friday on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana abd possession of Schedule V drugs.
Bertrand also held a warrant for failure to appear on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Bail has not been set.
—Geraldine M. Sifuentes, 55, Franklin, was arrested at 12:49 p.m. Friday on a charge of possession of marijuana. Sifuentes was released on a summons to appear July 22.
—Mary Helen Sharp, 30, Franklin, was arrested at 11:50 p.m. Friday on charges of driving while intoxicated (second offense) and resisting officer or arrest. Bail has been set at $7,500.
—Kurt Anthony Chapman, 34, Franklin, was arrested at 9:49 a.m. Saturday on charges of improper lane usage, no driver’s license on person and possession of drug paraphernalia. Chapman was released on a summons to appear July 22.
—Lilly Touchet, 29, Franklin, was arrested at 9:49 a.m. Saturday on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Touchet was released on a summons to appear July 22.
—Graline Dan Robertson, 25, Jeanerette, was arrested at 11:21 a.m. Saturday on charges of possession of marijuana and turning movements and required signals. Robertson was released on a summons to appear July 22.
—Malachi Michael Louviere, 31, Franklin, was arrested at 12:52 p.m. Saturday on charges of no seat belt, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Louviere was released on a summons to appear July 22.
—Juvenile male, 16, Jeanerette, was arrested at 3:03 p.m. Sunday as an ungovernable juvenile. The boy was released into the custody of a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.
—Bannon Lee Lightsey, 28, Patterson, was arrested at 7:20 p.m. Saturday on an animal complaint. Lightsey was released on a summons to appear July 22.
—Rusty Michael Curole, 35, Galliano, was arrested at 12:01 p.m. Sunday on charges of driving under suspension, possession of marijuana, obedience to peace offcers (weight and standard) proper equipment required on vehicles, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of heroin.
No bail has been set.
—Henry Wayne Truelove Jr., 36, Charenton, was arrested at 6:18 p.m. Sunday on a charge of possession of marijuana. Truelove was released on a summons to appear July 22.
—Sabrina Joella Bagala, 42, Charenton, was arrested at 6:18 p.m. Sunday on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bagala was released on a summons to appear July 22.
—Dakota J. Lombas, 25, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:24 p.m. Sunday on charges of possession of marijuana and proper equipment required on vehicles. Lombas was released on a summons to appear July 22.
Morgan City
Police Chief James F. Blair reported that over the last 72-hour period, the Morgan City Police Department responded to 123 calls for service and made these arrests:
—Yury Reyes-Contrera, 30, Eighth Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 10:45 a.m. Friday on warrants from 6th Ward Court for failure to appear to pay fine, two counts of contempt of court and failure to appear.
—Caston Malveaux, 65, Signe Street, Patterson, was arrested at 9:11 p.m. Friday on charges of turning movements and required signals, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, possession of crack cocaine, possession of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, and possession of a legend drug without a prescription.
—Johnnie Bennett, 57, North Bayou Black Drive, Gibson, was arrested at 8:23 a.m. Saturday on a charge of disturbing the peace.
—Brittan Michael Boudreaux, 36, Elizabeth Drive, Morgan City, was arrested at 7:04 p.m. Saturday on charges of resisting an officer and entering or remaining after being forbidden, and on a warrant for failure to appear for trial in 16th Judicial District Court.
—Tommy Easton Leblanc, 35, Chauvin, was arrested at 7:15 p.m. Saturday on charges of stop sign violation and no motor vehicle insurance.
—Kenneth Lee Warden, 39, Heights Drive, St. Bernard, was arrested at 7:51 p.m. Sunday on a warrant from the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office.
—Amber O’Connor, 41, Main Street, Patterson, was arrested at 4:21 a.m. Monday on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of the uniform controlled dangerous substance law (drug-free zone).
Berwick
Police Chief David Leonard reported these arrests:
—Nathan McClain Jr., 39, Arizona Street, Morgan City, was at 2:33 a.m. Saturday on charges of driving while intoxicated (second offense), violation of protective orders and illegal window tint.
At 2:12 a.m. Saturday, officers observed a vehicle traveling on U.S. 90 West with illegal window tint. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was identified as McClain.
He exhibited signs of impairment on alcohol.
He subsequently performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. During the stop, officers determined that there was an active protective order in place against him, and the protected person of the order was the passenger in the vehicle.
McClain was transported to the Berwick Police Department where he refused to submit a breath test. He was booked into the Berwick Jail then transferred to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for incarceration. No bond information is available at the time of this press release.
—Jason East, 47, Second Street, Berwick, was arrested at 9:43 a.m. Saturday on charges of possession of Xanax, possession of synthetic marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, improper lane use and driving under suspension.
At 9:16 a,m. Saturday, officers observed a vehicle swerving on U.S. 90 West and conducted a traffic stop.
The driver was identified as East, and while in contact with him, officers could smell an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle and observed marijuana in plain view inside of the car.
Officers conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and located synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia. During a search of East’s person, he was found to be in possession of a Xanax pill.
A computer check revealed that his driver’s license was suspended. East was placed under arrest and booked into the Berwick Jail.
—Paul Wiggins Jr., 51 years old, of Second Street, Berwick, was arrested at 1:11 a.m. Sunday on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense) and careless operation.
At 12:53 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a traffic incident in which a vehicle ran off the roadway into the grassy area along U.S. 90 East. Officers made contact with the driver and identified him as Wiggins.
He exhibited signs of impairment on alcohol. He performed poorly on the standardized field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. He provided a proper sample of .202g% BAC on the breath test. He was booked into the Berwick Jail and later released after posting a $3,000 bond.
—Juvenile male, 15, Berwick, was arrested at 6:53 a.m, Sunday on charges of peeping tom and resisting an officer.
At 6:40 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a residence in the 700 block of Utah Street in reference to a subject looking at the complaint through her back window. The complainant provided officers with a description of the subject, and he was located hiding in the wooded area near the complainant’s residence.
The subject fled on foot and was caught after a brief foot pursuit. He was positively identified as the individual the complainant saw looking in her window, and he was placed under arrest.
He was booked at the Berwick Police Department and released to his parent pending juvenile court proceedings.
Franklin
Police Chief Morris Beverly said his department responded to 23 complaints over the past weekend and made these arrests:
—Tina Charpentier, 41, Freeman Road, New Iberia, was arrested at 9:09 p.m. Sunday on a charge of unauthorized use of a movable.
Charpentier was booked, processed and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.
—Anastasia Shearron, 31, Carl C. Foulcard Drive, Franklin, was arrested at 1:59 a.m. Monday on a warrant for 3rd Ward City Court for failure to appear on the charges of misuse of temporary license plate, no insurance and driver must be licensed.
Shearron was booked, processed and released on a $400 bond.
St. Martin
Sheriff Becket Breaux reported these arrests:
—Darnell Angelle, 45, Nettie Street, Arnaudville, was arrested Sunday by the Henderson Police Department on charges of possession of Schedule I and Schedule II drugs.
—Ray Sonnier, 37, Bayou Alexander Highway, St. Martinville, was arrested Sunday on charges of simple criminal damage to property, resisting an officer by force or violence, careless operation, hit and run, expired license plate, no passing zones, switched plates, flight from an officer, battery of a police officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, possession of Schedule II drugs, general speed law, motor vehicle inspection laws, turning movements and signals required, and expired driver’s license.
—Wilfred Sylvester, 53, Railroad Street, Breaux Bridge, was arrested Sunday by the Breaux Bridge Police Department on a charge of simple burglary of a movable or immovable.
—Andre Arnaud, 36, Coteau Holmes Lane, St. Martinville, was arrested Saturday on charges of possession of Schedule II drugs and violation of controlled dangerous substance laws.
—Geneva Arnaud, 43, Levee Road, St. Martinville, was arrested Saturday on charges of possession of Schedule II drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, prohibited acts (Schedule IV) and violations of controlled dangerous substance laws.
—Leonard Berard, 21, St. Rita Highways, St. Martinville, was arrested Saturday on charges of possession with intent to distribute Schedule I drugs, transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses, possession of a firearm while attempting or committing a crime, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violations of controlled dangerous substance laws.
—Margaret Davis, 50, Agnes Drive, Breaux Bridge, was arrested Saturday by the Breaux Bridge Police Department on a charge of monetary instrument abuse.
—Joseph Landor, 47, Andrew Drive, St. Martinville, was arrested Saturday on charges of entry or remaining in places after forbidden and disturbing the peace.
—Logan Smith, 20. Camille Drive, St. Martinville, was arrested on warrants for failure to appear on charges of possession with intent to distribute Schedule I drugs, transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses, possession of a firearm while committing or attempting a crime, possession of drug paraphernalia and violations of controlled dangerous substance laws.
