Local man arrested after Morgan City home fire
A Bayou Vista man is accused of aggravated arson after a fire at a Vine Drive home, the Morgan City Police Department said.
Trevor M. Hebert, 26, Teche Road, Morgan City, was arrested at 4:13 p.m. Saturday on charges of aggravated arson, simple burglary, simple criminal damage to property, violation of a protective order and obstruction of justice.
According to the police press release, officers with the Morgan City Police Department along with the Morgan City Fire Department responded to the area of Vine Drive to a structure fire.
The Morgan City Fire Department said on its Facebook page that it answered the fire call about 6 a.m. Saturday and found the home fully engulfed in flame. The fire was under control about 6:30 a.m. Neither residents nor firefighters were injured, the Fire Department said.
After the blaze was extinguished, it was determined that the origin of the fire was of suspicious circumstances, the Police Department said.
Investigators with the Morgan City Police Department Detectives Division along with the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office responded. Hebert was developed as a suspect during the course of the investigation.
According to reports, Hebert admitted to entering the residence and setting fire to the house. After the crime, Hebert allegedly went to the area of Catherine Street and destroyed evidence. Hebert was also found to be in violation of a protective order. Hebert was arrested and booked into the Morgan City Jail with no bail set.
