Local authorities make arrests on sex crime charges

(Editor’s note: The charges listed here and the narratives that go with them are provided by the police agencies that made the arrests. Guilt or innocence has not been determined in court.)

St. Mary Parish and Morgan City authorities reported arrests related to sex crime charges over the weekend.

St. Mary

Sheriff Blaise Smith reported that over the last 72-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 87 complaints and made these arrests:

--David Tyrone Francois, 51, Morgan City, was arrested at 4:18 a.m. Monday on charges of simple battery and failure to register as a sex offender, and on five warrants alleging failure to appear on charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana or synthetic cannabinoids; possession of drug paraphernalia; illegal use, consumption, possession, or distribution of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a person under 17; distribution of cocaine; violation of controlled dangerous substance law; speeding; theft; and violation of a protective order.--Charles Joseph Berger, 33, Morgan City, was arrested at 1:32 p.m. Friday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on charges of possession of methamphetamine, improper lane usage and speeding.

Bail has not been set at this time.

--Julie Ann Crowell, 59, Charenton, was arrested at 5:59 p.m. Saturday on a Morgan City Police Department warrant alleging failure to appear on a charge of second-degree battery. Crowell is being held for another agency.

--Ricky James Watts, 34, was arrested at 11:36 p.m. Friday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on a charge of battery of a dating partner. Bail has not been set at this time.

--Nicole Fisher, 32, Bayou Vista, was arrested at 8:34 p.m. Sunday on a charge of possession of a legend drug without a prescription and on a warrant alleging failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family. Bail has not been set at this time.

--Ronald Joseph Grow, 50, Bayou Vista, was arrested at 9:33 p.m. Sunday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on a charge of criminal neglect of family. Bail was set at $1,290.

Bail has not been set at this time.

Morgan City

Chief Chad M. Adams reported that over the last 72-hour reporting period, the Morgan City Police Department responded to 109 calls for service and made these arrests:

--Melvin A. Galeas-Canizales, 37, Franklin Street, Morgan City, was at 8:19 a.m. Friday on charges of aggravated crime against nature and indecent behavior with a juvenile.

--Amber R. Taylor, 33, Levee Road, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:14 p.m. Friday on a warrant alleging failure to appear for trial (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

--Russell J. Blanchard Jr., 35, Allison Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 3:56 p.m. Friday on warrants alleging failure to appear for arraignment (16th Judicial District Court) and three counts of failure to appear for trial (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

--Amilcar Gomez, 37, Everett Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 6:43 p.m. Friday on a charge of domestic abuse battery.

--Patrick S. Meyers, 37, Ditch Avenue, Morgan City, was arrested at 1:15 a.m. Saturday on charges of resisting an officer and criminal trespass, and on a warrant alleging failure to pay fine (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

--Lisa A. Willis, 56, Pluto Street, Morgan City, was arrested 9:34 a.m. Monday on a warrant alleging three counts of failure to appear (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

Franklin

Interim Chief Tina Thibodeaux reported that the Franklin Police Department responded to 20 complaints over the past weekend and made these arrests:

--Justin Bourgeois, 50, Cane Road, Franklin, was arrested at 7:20 a.m. Saturday on a charge of aggravated battery. Bourgeois was booked, processed and released to appear in court.

--Carl Dupas, 59, Iberia Street, Franklin, was arrested at 13:43 p.m. on charges of prohibited acts (Schedule II) and drug paraphernalia. Dupas was additionally arrested on a 3rd Ward City Court warrant alleging failure to appear on the charges of criminal mischief and resisting arrest. Dupas was booked, processed and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center
