Hit-and-run, drunken-driving arrests reported by local police

Morgan City police made a hit-and-run arrest, and Berwick officers booked a man on a drunken-driving charge early Wednesday.

St. Mary Parish deputies accused a man of obscenity Tuesday after an incident at a local business.

Morgan City

Interim Police Chief Mark E. Griffin Jr. reported that the Morgan City Police Department responded to 41 calls for service over the last 24-hour reporting period and made these arrests:

—Robert Christopher Anderson, 37, Ashland Avenue, Bossier City, was arrested at 4 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of failure to appear for trial (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

—Joeb Ethan Richard, 19, Dawn Drive, Morgan City, was arrested at 4 p.m. Tuesday on two counts of failure to appear to pay fine (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

—Joseph Jerome Jessie, 43, Utah Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 4 p.m. Tuesday on three counts of failure to appear to pay fine (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

—Tina Washington, 49, Freret Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 5:36 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of telephone harassment.

—Clint Adam Landry, 43, Shell Beach Road, Pierre Part, was arrested at 12:02 a.m. Wednesday on charges of hit and run, improper following, improper lane usage, driving under suspension and possession of drug paraphernalia

Berwick

Police Chief David S. Leonard reported these arrests:

—Clifton Falcon, 39, Young Street, Youngsville, was arrested at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday on charges of improper lane usage, and driving under suspension and on
St. Mary Parish warrants alleging reckless operation of a motor vehicle, proper equipment, no insurance and driving under suspension.

About 9:56 p.m. Tuesday, a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle after a lane violation. Officers made contact with Falcon and learned that his driver’s license was suspended.

It was also learned that Falcon had active warrants through the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office as well as the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office. Falcon was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department where he was booked on the Tuesday charges, the St. Mary Parish warrant and a warrant from Calcasieu Parish.

—Michael Mayfield Sr., 64, Fifth Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 2:35 a.m. Wednesday on charge of driving while intoxicated (first offense), open container and improper lane usage.

About 2:12 a.m. Wednesday, a vehicle was observed traveling east on U.S. 90. The vehicle was observed to cross both the center and fog line several times, nearly leaving the roadway.

A traffic stop was conduct-ed on the vehicle, and officers made contact with Mayfield. While speaking with Mayfield, impairment was suspected and open alcoholic beverages were located inside his vehicle. Mayfield performed poorly on field sobriety testing and was placed under arrest.

Mayfield was transported to the Berwick Police Department, where he provided a valid breath sample of 0.097G% BAC. Mayfield was booked. He posted a $3,000 bond.

Patterson

Police Chief Garrett Grogan reported this arrest:

—Gustavo A. Williams, 18, Ames Street, Marrero, was arrested at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday on charges of no driver’s license and speeding 1-10 mph over the limit. Williams paid a $536 fine and was released.

St. Mary

Sheriff Blaise Smith reported this arrest:

--Nathel Burnell Lewis, 40, Patterson, was arrested at 7:17 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of obscenity.

Shortly after noon Sunday, the Patrol Division of the SMPSO received a complaint of a male in a vehicle at a local business in Bayou Vista, committing a lewd act in the view of others. Through the ensuing investigation of the incident, the suspect was identified as Lewis.

On Tuesday, deputies working the investigation gathered additional evidence, spoke to additional witnesses, and obtained a warrant.

At approximately 6:30 pm, deputies made contact with Lewis, placed him under arrest and transported him to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail has not been set.

Franklin

Police Chief Morris Beverly reported that the Franklin Police Department responded to 10 complaints over the last 24-hour reporting period and made this arrest:

--Chris Baptiste, 54, Eighth Street, Franklin, was arrested at 7:11 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant for the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office alleging failure to register as a sex offender. Baptiste was booked, processed, and held on a $10,000 bond.
