Higgins on task force examining Trump shooting

The congressman who represents nearly all of St. Mary Parish will be part of a task force that will investigate the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.
U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins, R-Lafayette, will serve on the bipartisan composed of seven Republicans and six Democrats.
The Task Force will have the House of Representatives full investigative authority, including subpoena power, and will assume control and jurisdiction over all pending House committee investigations regarding the Trump assassination attempt for the remainder of the 118th Congress, Higgins said this week in a press release.
The Task Force is designed to assess the security failures that took place, ensure accountability, and report solutions to prevent agency failures from happening again.
“I am honored to serve on the bipartisan Task Force on the attempted assassination of President Trump,” Higgins said.
“The American people demand answers, and we will use every tool at our disposal to reveal granular detail of what led to the attempted assassination, ensure accountability, and identify security failures. I look forward to working with my bipartisan colleagues to deliver the truth.”
Questions have surrounded the July 13 attempt on Trump’s life. One spectator was also killed and two seriously wounded in the attack by Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old who fired eight rounds from an AR-15 while atop a roof within 150 yards of the former president.
After a grilling by members of Congress, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned last week.
