Getting ready for Lighthouse Weekend

Town officials, participants and members of the Coast Guard gathered this week to promote Berwick's International Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend event Saturday at Lighthouse Park. The event begins with a ceremony at 9 a.m. Amateur radio operators will be on hand to try to make contact with other lighthouses around the country and around the world. Andrew Tingler of the National Weather Service will speak about the upcoming solar eclipse at 11 a.m. The winners of the shoe box contest, which encouraged entrants to decorate shoe boxes to look like radios, will be announced at 2 p.m. Among those present Monday were, front row from left: Councilwoman Jacki Ackel, Councilman Duval Arthur, Mayor Louis Ratcliff and Rudy Duchan of the Bayouland Emergency Amateur Radio Service. Back row: Town Market vendor Shannon McFate, Public Works Director Rafael Lopez, Police Chief James Richard, Chief Administrative Officer Bubba Slaughter and Misty Pillaro of the town of Berwick.
