Four booked on attempted murder charges after Morgan City shooting

The four men arrested early Wednesday after a Morgan City shooting face attempted first-degree murder charges, the Police Department said.

The shooting happened about 7:50 p.m. Tuesday in the area near Garber Street and wounded a juvenile, the Police Department said.

Arrested at 12:04 a.m. Wednesday were:

--Deante Pharagood, 22, Sanders Street, Thibodaux, on charges of attempted first-degree murder, illegal possession of stolen firearms, firearm free zone and resisting an officer.

--Raheem Green, 23, Sanders Street, Thibodaux, on charges of attempted first-degree murder, illegal possession of stolen firearms, firearm-free zone and resisting an officer.

--Sterling Tillman Jr., 24, Plymouth Street, Thibodaux, on charges of attempted first-degree murder, illegal possession of stolen firearms, firearm-free zone, resisting an officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

--Terrence Scott, 18, Bayou Black Drive, Gibson, on charges of charges of attempted first-degree murder, illegal possession of stolen firearms, firearm-free zone and resisting an officer.

About 6 p.m. Tuesday, responded to the area of Federal Avenue and Orange Street regarding a report of gunfire in the area. Officers patrolled the area and did not locate anything, or anyone who had been struck, according to the police account.
During the shift, officers patrolled these areas due to the earlier reports of gunfire. While in the area at around 7:50 p.m., a patrol officer observed gunfire coming from a vehicle in the area of Garber Street.

The officer engaged the vehicle and attempted to stop it when the vehicle fled. A pursuit was initiated that ended on Franklin St. near Maple Street. Several subjects exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Several officers arrived to assist, when four of five subjects who fled the vehicle were quickly apprehended. They were Pharagood, Green, Tillman and Scott.

As the investigation unfolded, it was learned that a juvenile subject was struck by gunfire and treated at a local medical facility with moderate injuries. According to reports, the victim was in the area of Garber Street when the vehicle in question pulled into the area and opened fire.

Investigators with the Morgan City Police Department Detectives Division responded. Investigators were able to locate in total five firearms, two of which were found to be stolen. The investigation continued when evidence was uncovered linking Pharagood, Green, Tillman, and Scott to the crime.

The four subjects apprehended were booked and processed by the Morgan City Jail.

Chief Chad M. Adams and the Morgan City Police Department thanked the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office and the Berwick Police Department for their assistance in the investigation.
