Four arrests on child desertion charges

Morgan City police arrested four people on child desertion charges Friday, police reports say. Morgan City officers and St. Mary deputies also made four arrests over the weekend related to domestic abuse.

Morgan City
Police Chief James F. Blair reported that in the last 72-hour reporting period, the Morgan City Police Department responded to 102 calls for service and made these arrests:
—Blanca Alvarada, 21, Aucoin Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 10:42 a.m. Friday on a charge of child desertion.
—Austin Firmin, 18, Grizzaffi Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 8:25 p.m. Friday on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Destiny N. Escort, 25, Halsey Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:59 p.m. Friday on a warrant alleging child desertion.
—Waylon J. Levy, 30, Main Street, Patterson was arrested at 9:59 p.m. Friday on a warrant alleging child desertion.
—Shane Joseph Granger, 34, Chetta Lane, Morgan City, was arrested at 10:11 a.m. Friday on 6th Ward Morgan City Court warrants alleging 15 counts of failure to appear to pay fine, careless operation and no driver’s license.
—Lydia Mary Boudreaux, 31, Ramos Street, Amelia, was arrested at 2:25 a.m. Saturday on a charge of disturbing the peace.
—Dylan Bryant, 23, Daphne Street, Patterson, was arrested at 2:29 a.m. Saturday on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense), reckless operation of a motor vehicle and failure to obey traffic signals.
—Scarlett Marie Burkart, 40, Park Road, Morgan City, was arrested at 3:22 p.m. Saturday on a 6th Ward Morgan City Court warrant alleging failure to appear for arraignment.
—Martin O. Garcia-Soza, 45, Duke Street, Morgan City was arrested at 8:56 p.m. Saturday on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense), reckless operation of a motor vehicle, no driver’s license, possession of fraudulent documents for identification purposes, and possession of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle.
—Max Lamar James, 37, Front Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 4:18 a.m. Sunday on a 16th Judicial District Court warrant alleging failure to appear for imposition and a warrant alleging resisting an officer.
—Steven Patureau, 60, Laura Lane, Amelia, was arrested at 8:57 p.m. Sunday on charges of battery on a dating partner, simple battery and disturbing the peace (intoxicated).
—Wesley Rink, 26, Clements Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:27 a.m. Monday on charges of domestic abuse (child endangerment) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

St. Mary
Sheriff Blaise Smith advised that over the last 72-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 100 complaints and made these arrests:
--Renardo Dywarne Stewart, 45, Baldwin, was arrested at 2:49 p.m. Friday on a charge of resisting arrest or officer and on three warrants alleging failure to appear on charges of failure to dim headlights; driver must be licensed; operating a vehicle while license is suspended/revoked/canceled; improper lane usage; possession of alcoholic beverages in motor vehicles; resisting an officer; no driver's license on person; and speeding. Bail was set at $3,255.
--Corey Wayne Sereal, 47, Jeanerette, as arrested at 7:06 a.m. Saturday on charges of stop signs/yield signs, driving while intoxicated and resisting an officer by giving false information. Bail was set at $4,250.
--Cordell Jerome Johnson, Jr., 20, Franklin, was arrested at 12:06 a.m. Saturday on charges of simple criminal damage to property, battery of a dating partner (strangulation), battery of a dating partner (child endangerment) and reckless operation (no accident).
Bail has not been set.
--Nyah Latrice Prevost, 19, Franklin, was arrested at 12:05 a.m. Saturday on charges of simple criminal damage to property and battery of a dating partner. Prevost was released on a $2,750 bond.
--Manekka Schwan Livas, 36, Houma, was arrested at 8:14 p.m. Saturday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on the charges of speeding and driving under suspension. Livas was released on a $750 bond.
--Carl Winston Joseph Jr., 28, Franklin, was arrested at 1:39 a.m. Sunday on a warrant alleging failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family. Bail was set at $3,230.95.
--Darlene Miriah Bailey, 60, Lafayette, was arrested on at 1:58 a.m. Sunday on charges of possession of Schedule II drugs, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail has not been set.
--Verelyn Benjamin Cannon, 62, Morgan City, was arrested at 4:30 a.m. Sunday on charges of domestic abuse battery and simple criminal damage to property. Cannon was released on a $2,750 bond.
--Bettina Lynn Duval, 47, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:47 p.m. Sunday on a charge of monetary instrument abuse. Bail has not been set.
--McCloures Manuel, 32, Franklin, was arrested at 12:56 a.m. Monday on a charge of domestic abuse battery (strangulation). Bail has not been set.

Franklin
Police Chief Morris Beverly reported that the Franklin Police Department responded to 23 complaints over the past weekend and made these arrests:
—Carl Dupas, 58, Iberia Street, Franklin, was arrested at 8:37 a.m. Friday on a charge of simple battery. Dupas was booked, processed and held on a $2,000 bond.
—Allen Jones, 45, Martin Luther King Boulevard, Franklin, was arrested at 12:58 p.m. on a charge of theft. Jones was booked, processed and released to appear in 3rd Ward City Court.
—Marquita Wiggins, 27, Dale Street, New Iberia, was arrested at 11:09 p.m. Sunday on a charge of simple battery. Wiggins was booked, processed and released to appear in 3rd Ward City Court.
