Firefighters save chihuahua puppies from burning house

Morgan City firefighters rescued chihuahua puppies from a burning house early Thursday, the Fire Department said in a Facebook post.

The department responded to the report of a structure fire in the 600 block of Fourth Street about 1 a.m. The first firefighters to arrive reported that smoke and fire were visible, and they began fighting the fire.

The fire was quickly knocked down and overhauled, the Fire Department said. No occupant or firefighter injuries were reported.

:"Our personnel were able to rescue some chihuahua puppies, providing oxygen and resuscitation measures," the Fire Department said. "They will be temporarily cared for by Morgan City Petting Zoo."

FireDepartment trucks and personnel were back in service by 3:30am.
