Drug and gun charges result from Berwick traffic stop

A traffic stop early Friday in Berwick resulted in the arrest of a Thibodaux woman on drug and gun charges, including possession of heroin.

Morgan City police also reported an arrest on a charge of indecent behavior with juveniles.

Berwick

Police Chief David S. Leonard reported this arrest:

--Kayla Bergeron, 34, Winder Road East, Thibodaux was arrested at 2:54 a.m. Friday on charges of possession of heroin, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of THC, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile, possession of drug paraphernalia and no turn signal.

About 1:05 a.m. Friday, a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle after it was observed to not signal as it made a turn. Officers met with Bergeron and through the course of the stop, a search was conducted of her vehicle.

During this time, a firearm was located along with suspected heroin, methamphetamine, marijuana, THC and other items of drug paraphernalia. There was a small child in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop.

Bergeron was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department, where she was booked.

Morgan City

Police Chief Chad M. Adams reported that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Morgan City Police Department responded to 47 calls for service and made these arrests:

--Jeffery Ulloa, 19, Victor II Boulevard, Morgan City, was arrested at 2 p.m. Thursday on a warrant alleging indecent behavior with juveniles.

--Paris Harris, 26, Bowman Street, Morgan City, was arrested 2:43 p.m. Thursday on a charge of remaining after being forbidden.

--Trinity Harris, 23, 11 Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 2:43 p.m. Thursday on a charge of remaining after being forbidden and on a warrant alleging eight counts of failure to appear to pay fine (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

--Latoya M. Pharr, 35, Ciro Street, Morgan City, was arrested 3:16 p.m. Thursday on charges of hit and run, no driver’s license and careless operation.

--Dequante Q. Wesley, 29, Egle Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 4:09 p.m. Thursday on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia; as a fugitive from the Patterson Police Department; on a warrant alleging failure to appear (16th Judicial District Court); and a warrant alleging failure to pay fine (6th Ward Morgan City Court).

Patterson

Police Chief Garrett Grogan reported this arrest:

--Brian C. Landry, 20, Tiffany Street, Patterson, was arrested at 4:14 p.m. Thursday on a charge of discharging a firearm in the city limits. Landry was issued a summons.

Assumption

Sheriff Leland Falcon reported these arrests:

--Brandon Matthew Steele, 39, Bayou Black Drive, Gibson, was arrested Thursday on charges of possession of methamphetamine and two counts of resisting an officer and on a probation and parole detainer.

The arrest followed a traffic stop near La. 62 and Aristle Road in Bayou L’Ourse Thursday evening.

A uniformed patrol deputy observed a vehicle in the area with an equipment violation and initiated a stop of that vehicle. Deputies made contact with the driver now identified as Authement, 38, Thoroughbred Drive, Thibodaux, and conducted an interview with her.

Investigating deputies noticed aggressive movements by a passenger in the suspect vehicle. Deputies removed the passenger now identified as Steele. During the interview, deputies seized a quantity of methamphetamine from the person of Steele. This suspect was placed under arrest.

Steele was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

--Chaz Michael Rebardi, 28, Rose Street, Berwick, was arrested Thursday on a warrant alleging a probation violation.

Rebardi was convicted of the crimes of aggravated burglary and home invasion on April 26, 2017, and was sentenced to a term of supervised probation for five years.

Rebardi was ordered to abide by conditions during the probationary period. Rebardi violated the terms and conditions of probation resulting in a warrant being issued for his arrest on April 25, 2022.

Rebardi was arrested on Thursday and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention and ordered held without bond.

-- Dominique McKey Moreno, 25, Bayou Black Drive, Gibson, was arrested Thursday on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, expired motor vehicle inspection tag and no seat belt.

The charges arise from a traffic stop on U.S. 90 near Amelia late Thursday.

An I.C.E.-assigned deputy observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and initiated a stop of that vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver now identified as oreno and conducted an interview. During that process, the deputy noted an odor of suspected marijuana emitting from the person of Moreno as well as the suspect vehicle. Moreno acknowledged the presence of marijuana in the vehicle.

The investigating deputy secured consent to search the suspect vehicle. During the search, a quantity of methamphetamine was seized as well as drug paraphernalia.

Moreno was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center with bond set at $5,000.

Franklin

Interim Police Chief Tina Thibodeaux reported that the Franklin Police Department responded to nine complaints over the last 24-hour reporting period and made these arrests:

--Jared Cowart, 37, Proctor Road, Jeanerette, was arrested at 10:05 a.m. Thursday on a warrant dated Dec. 20 alleging operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Cowart was booked, processed and release on a $2,500 bond.

--David Dugas, 36, Chatsworth Road, Franklin, was arrested at 2:56 p.m. Thursday on a warrant dated Jan. 4 alleging terrorizing and cyberbullying. Dugas was booked, processed and held with no bond set at time of press release.
