Deputies make arrests on drag racing, DWI charges

Sheriff’s deputies say they booked a would-be drag racer Friday and, on Saturday, an allegedly careless driver who picked up his fourth drunken driving charge.

St. Mary
Sheriff Blaise Smith advised that over the last 72-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 99 complaints and made these arrests:
—Jose Ibarra, 18, Morgan City, was arrested at 6:50 p.m. Friday on charges of drag racing and racing on public roads, mufflers, no insurance, switched or stolen license plate, driver must be licensed, and failure of owner to secure registration.
Ibarra was released on a summons to appear Feb. 3.
--Rudbin Maldonado, 30, Amelia, was arrested at 2:04 a.m. Saturday on charges of reckless operation (no accident), driving under suspension, open container, no headlights and driving while intoxicated (fourth offense).
Bail was set at $50,000.
—Lavonte Rashard Jones, 27, Franklin, was arrested Friday on charges of expired license plate, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Jones was released on a summons to appear Feb. 3.
—William Joseph Hale III, 34, Franklin, was arrested at 12:14 a.m. Saturday on charges of domestic abuse battery by strangulation, domestic abuse battery and disturbing the peace (language). Hale was released on a $10,000 bond.
—Angelle Rene Broussard, 30, Morgan City, was arrested at 1:18 a.m. Saturday on charges of improper lane usage, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Broussard was released on a summons to appear Feb. 3.
—Paul Nosworthy, 40, Houma, was arrested at 10:42 p.m. Sunday on charges of proper equipment required on vehicles, driving under suspension and no insurance. Nosworthy was released on a summons to appear Feb. 3
—Juvenile female, 17, Baldwin, was arrested at 12:23 a.m. Monday on charges of no license plates, resisting an officer by flight, possession of drug paraphernalia, driver must be licensed and curfew violation.
The girl was released into the custody of a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.
—Raymond Terry Chapman, 41, Centerville, was arrested at 1:25 a.m. Monday on a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Bail was set at $5,000.
—Latricia Marquez, 37, Patterson, was arrested at 10:16 a.m. Friday on a warrant alleging hit and run. Marquez was released on a summons to appear Feb. 3.
—Brittany Nicole Burbante, 30, Morgan City, was arrested at 8:29 a.m. Friday on a warrant alleging driving under suspension, possession of synthetic cannabinoids and possession of drug paraphernalia. Burbante was released on a summons to appear Feb. 3.
—Jeremy Lee Housely, 39, Charenton, was arrested at 7:05 a.m. Saturday on a charge of criminal trespass. Housely was released on a summons to appear Feb. 3.
—Jamal Bell, 18, Franklin, was arrested at 7:20 p.m. Saturday on charges of simple criminal damage to property and ATV/Off-road vehicles on public roadways prohibited. Bell was released on a summons to appear
Feb. 3.
—Earnest Norris, 39, Houma, was arrested at 10:13 p.m. Saturday on a charge of possession of marijuana. Norris was released on a summons to appear Feb. 3.
—Erin Makie, 22, Franklin, was arrested at 11:06 p.m. Sunday on charge of no license plate light and no insurance. Makie was released on a summons to appear Feb. 3.
—Charles Dapremont Jr., 43, Charenton, was arrested at 7:50 a.m. Friday by the Narcotics Section on charges of improper lane use, possession of marijuana and obstruction of justice. Dapremont was released on a summons to appear Feb. 3.

Morgan City
Police Chief James F. Blair reported that over the last 72-hour period, the Morgan City Police Department responded to 122 calls for service and made these arrests:
—Mark Lawayne Murphree 60, Third Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 10:19 a.m. Friday on a charge of hit and run.
—Tris Evans Madison, 28, La. 318 Jeanerette, was arrested at 2:30 p.m. Friday on a 6th Ward Morgan City Court warrants alleging failure to appear to pay fine and two counts of failure to appear for trial.
— Earl Simmons, 29, Shaw Drive, Morgan City, was arrested at 2:19 a.m. Saturday on charges of disturbing the peace (intoxicated), possession of marijuana, and resisting an officer with force or violence.
—Victoria Cavalier, 22, Pine Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 6:42 p.m. Saturday on a 16th Judicial District Court warrant alleging two counts of failure to appear for trial.
—Tony Weston, 46, Lori Lane, Patterson, was arrested at 1:43 a.m. Sunday on a charge of second-degree battery.

Berwick
Police Chief David Leonard reported these arrests:
—Rip Verdin Jr., 46, Camille Drive, Patterson, was arrested at 9 p.m. Friday on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of unregistered or illegally transferred weapon (short barrel shotgun under 18 inches), possession of a firearm in the presence of controlled dangerous substances, registration violations, no insurance, and expired license plate.
About 8:46 p.m. Friday, the Berwick Police Department received a call about a stalled vehicle on the La. 182 bridge. Officers met with Verdin and got his vehicle safely off the bridge.
While speaking with Verdin, it was learned that the registration was expired and that the expiration sticker on his license plate did not belong to that vehicle. It was also learned that the vehicle did not have an active insurance policy.
During the course of the stop with Verdin, a pat-down for officer safety was conducted, at which time methamphetamines were located on his person. A search of Verdin’s vehicle was done and a shotgun was located that had been modified and measured under 18 inches.
Verdin was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department, where he was booked.
—Annique Gant, 32, Jones Street, Berwick, was arrested at 10:10 p.m. Sunday on a warrant alleging domestic battery.
About 10:10 p.m. Sunday, Gant walked into the Berwick Police Department to turn herself in on an active warrant. The warrant stems from an investigation into a Nov. 15 incident in which Gant and another household member got into an altercation.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Gant was the aggressor. Gant was placed under arrest and booked..

Franklin
Police Chief Morris Beverly reported that the Franklin Police Department responded to 28 complaints over the past weekend and made these arrests:
—Alonia Shearron, 53, Plantation Teche Drive, Franklin, was arrested at 10:42 p.m. Friday on the charge of simple battery. Shearron was additionally arrested on a warrant for 16th Judicial District Court for failure to appear on the charge of issuing worthless checks. Shearron was booked, processed and released on a $3,000 bond.
—Tyrone Jackson, 37, Romero Lane, Jeanerette, was arrested at 1:24 p.m. Sunday on a 3rd Ward City Court warrant alleging failure to appear on the charge of disturbing the peace (intoxication). Jackson was booked, processed and released on a $418 bond.
