Boil water advisory in effect for areas in unincorporated eastern St. Mary Parish

A boil water advisory is in effect for an area east of Morgan City in St. Mary Parish after a local company conducting electrical work busted a water line.
St. Mary Parish Water and Sewer Commission No. 1 President Carlo Gagliano Jr. said the area under the advisory encompasses from the Greenwood Overpass to around Conrad Shipyard’s Amelia facility. It includes Siracusaville.
Gagliano said the water line was busted after 5 p.m. Monday when the local company was doing utility work and didn’t realize a water line was present.
He said the water main has been repaired, but as per state protocol, a boil advisory has been issued until the water tests come back favorable. Samples were being sent to the state Department of Health Tuesday morning, and Gagliano said they probably will receive results Wednesday.
While residents should not consume the water from the tap, it is OK to bathe and wash clothes with it, Gagliano said.
