Body recovered from capsized boat identified
The one body recovered after a lift boat capsized Tuesday off Port Fourchon has been identified as the boat's captain.
The Lafourche Parish Coroner's Office identified the man as David Ledet, 63, of Thibodaux.
Six crew members were rescued after the Seacor Power capsized late Tuesday afternoon eight miles south of Port Fourchon in rough seas and winds of more than 80 mph. Two were rescued by the Coast Guard, and four were picked up by good Samaritan volunteers.
The search for 12 crew members who are still missing continued Thursday, the Coast Guard said.
The Coast Guard continues to search for 12 missing people Thursday from a capsized vessel 8 miles south of Port Fourchon.
By Thursday morning, Coast Guard crews have searched for a combined 70 hours covering approximately 6,380 square miles, an area roughly the size of Hawaii.
While search efforts for the crew are continuing, the incident has been declared a major marine casualty. The Coast Guard is leading a preliminary investigation, and the National Transportation Safety Board will be joining in that effort.
