Berwick police handle cases involving young people

The Berwick Police Department spent much of Tuesday dealing with young people, but not for kid stuff.
A 14-year-old boy got into trouble by waving a gun, while a missing 14-year-old girl was found safe, according to arrest reports. A woman was accused of having drugs in the presence of a child.
In Assumption, meanwhile, deputies investigated allegations that a senior citizen was physically abused.

Berwick
Police Chief David Leonard reported these arrests:
—Juvenile male, 14, was arrested at 5:08 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm.
About 5 p.m. Tuesday, the Berwick Police Department received a call about a juvenile waving a gun. Officers responded to the area and located a group of juveniles.
One in particular was identified as having a pistol in his possession. The boy led officers to the firearm, and it was learned that he had taken it from a family member.
He was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department, where he was booked. The boy was released to a parent pending a court hearing.
 —Juvenile female, 14, was arrested at 6:54 p.m. Tuesday as an ungovernable or runaway juvenile.
About 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Berwick Police Department received a call about a missing juvenile. It was reported that the girl had not been seen since the night before.
Through investigation, she was located safe and unharmed later in the afternoon. Investigators spoke with the juvenile, who admitted to running away the night before.
The girl was placed under arrest at the Berwick Police Department and booked. She was later released to a parent pending a court hearing.
—Demarcus Skipper, 26, Grizzaffi Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 10:22 p.m. Tuesday on charges of possession of marijuana, driving under suspension and license plate required, and on an Assumption Parish warrant for failure to appear.
About 10:05 p.m. Tuesday, officers observed a vehicle traveling with no light illuminating the license plate area. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and contact was made with Skipper.
During the course of the stop, it was learned that Skipper’s license was suspended and that he had an active warrant through the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office. Skipper was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department.
There, Skipper was found to be in possession of marijuana that he had concealed on his person. Skipper was booked.
—Danayre Smith, 26, Ceylon Street, Berwick, was arrested at 12:35 a.m. Wednesday on charges of possession of marijuana (second offense), possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile.
On Wednesday, officers with the Berwick Police Department responded to a residence on Ceylon Street in reference to illegal narcotic activity. Officers officers made contact with Smith and detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the residence.
Consent was given to search the residence, at which time marijuana was located inside along with items of drug paraphernalia.
During this time, there was a small child present.
Smith was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department, where she was booked .

Assumption
Sheriff Leland Falcon reported this arrest:
—Betty L. Metrejean, 56, South Bay Road, Pierre Part, was arrested Tuesday on charges of domestic battery, simple battery on the infirm and exploitation of the infirm.
The Governor’s Office of Elderly Affairs contacted the Sheriff’s Office regarding potential abuse of an elderly person at the South Bay Road address.
Detectives began a follow-up investigation and determined that an elderly, infirm victim had sustained physical abuse at the hands of the suspect, Metrejean. Detectives also determined that Metrejean stole personal funds from the victim and used those funds for her own personal gain.
Metrejean was interviewed on Tuesday and following that interview, warrants were applied for and granted for the arrest of the suspect. Metrejean remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.

St. Mary
Sheriff Blaise Smith advised that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 43 complaints and made these arrests:
 —Jodie Guidry Aucoin, 37, Berwick, was arrested at 5:43 p.m. Tuesday on two warrants for failure to appear on the charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding. No bail has been set.
—Patty Sue Uriegas, 28, Patterson, was arrested at 11:43 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear on a charge of operating a vehicle with improperly lit lamps. No bail has been set.
—Edward Washington, 60, Berwick, was arrested at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday by the Narcotics Section on charges of improper lane use and possession of marijuana.
Washington was released on a summons to appear Aug. 19.

Morgan City
Police Chief James F. Blair reported that over the last 24-hour period, the Morgan City Police Department, responded to 43 calls for service and made this arrest:
—Adrian Billiot, 39, Franklin Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 3:15 p.m. on a charge of improper supervision of a minor.
